I'm not going to rank them but if I was it would probably be like Cinammon>Leave It Alone>Creepin'>Simmer>Sudden Desire, but also the middle three could switch around a lot, and let me be clear that Sudden Desire is a fantastic song. (It's funny because I did rank them after all.)
This EP is so so good. Was worried about having too many singles out when I put it on this morning but now my hype for the album is through the roof! Really interesting release strategy, will love to see how it goes.
Hayley has a response to the plagarism accusations on her Instagram story and it is very genuine and honest
The imagery in both videos is clear homage to many classic horror images and modern dance concepts, which neither Hayley nor this other artist created. There are truly no original ideas and this shit truly does happen. I feel terrible that this is overshadowing her first solo outing and I feel terrible that another artist felt that they were being maliciously copies. It’s sucks. I hope they can have a conversation or resolve it in a way that is satisfying for both.
I feel her. Just yeah...it’s not a case of ‘oh this looks similar’, it’s a case of like that’s literally nigh on identical? Idk. Whatever the case, it’s just a shame that something like this mars the release somewhat and overshadows what was obviously a therapeutic journey for her.
Disagree that the visuals are identical. There are similarities, but saying they look identical is just not true. I think it’s good Hayley responded, and I believe her. These things do happen, and or sucks, but I’m not taking it as more than an unfortunate coincidence.
I mean they’re ridiculously close - the bathtub sequence especially. I said nigh on identical. The concept in itself isn’t exactly a unique one but arguing the side by side isn’t damn close is disingenuous, because it’s pretty evident why the other artist is claiming it’s plagiarism. I definitely don’t feel like Hayley sat and watched it and decided to copy it - that’s daft. I do however think someone involved had to have seen it or something. Whether that’s a choreographer or the creative director, whatever. There’s a reason this blew up and wasn’t just glazed over like many of these cases usually are. It’s more than just a passing resemblance.
After listening to the EP through a handful of times I'm really struck by just how intentional every little component of it feels. Really really impressive piece of work I wish I didn't emotionally connect to as much as I do but insanely thankful it exists.
There is absolutely zero chance that this happened by pure coincidence considering it was multiple scenes, shots, etc. Don’t know who to blame but it’s not a great look overall
Cinnamon was definitely the best on first listen. Simmer's okay. Thought leave it alone was tooooooo slow and boring for me. Not my taste. She's really channeling her inner Fiona Apple, Tori Amos, Bjork, ST Vincent, PRIESTS. So ya know like female art alt? Idk a name for it. Hey go for it. Probably not my favorite stuff though. And I literally LOVED every paramore album. Probably the most consistent band in my top 10, easily. I'm always amazed at how they made FOUR straight great albums. This one is a bit of a challenge though.
Just curious, are the four straight great albums from AWKIF to the self-titled or from Riot to After Laughter?
Honestly couldn’t gel with either of the last two albums at all. The first three were my life though. They’ll always have a special place with me.
Riot to After Laughter. AWKIF was okay, i mean, there's like 4-5 songs on that album i really like too, but it wasn't until RIOT came out that i said "hey now.... this isn't just some scene band"
