Not really into this at all on first listen, but I'm a huge fan of hers in general so I'll revisit and check out the album.
Some notes from the Radio 1 interview: Hayley said it was nice for the band to take time off as friends and adults without losing a band member. This project came out of her needing help to deal with all she was going through, started intensive therapy and friends suggested she start writing. She spoke with Taylor and Zac about it and they all encouraged her and told her they'd support it. When it became 4 or 5 songs she thought "this is a thing" and on Taylor's advice he encouraged her to call their manager and talk about a solo album. "Petals for armor" is about staying soft to things and not hardening up to the pain. She had a lot of anger to work through, and she thought a song (Simmer) that was supposed to be just about anger ended up hitting some "very specific trigger points" for her and that's where the second verse came in, which was difficult to work through. Hayley said when it's time for them to write the next Paramore record, there'll be the same transparent lyrics and visceral thoughts that come through but that she wouldn't of had the ability to access them if Paramore hadn't paused and she got some quiet to explore it. She also said that it was important as a woman to step into her own skin and explore these things. And Hayley said YES to taking these songs on the road!!! She said she would miss her brothers (Zac and Taylor) but confirmed Joey will be with her and said she would miss turning around and seeing Zac's goofy face. Not sure about Taylor because she didn't confirm or deny. God I am STOKED for this
I’ve been arguing with friends a lot about why Apple Music is so much better than Spotify and Hayley really screwed me today by putting this song on every service BUT Apple Music Love the song though, exactly what I wanted and I didn’t even know it!!
I'm into it. The video especially is dope. Can someone who's followed Paramore longer than me explain why this couldn't be a Paramore song? I guess in terms of its creation from what I've read itt it makes sense for her to release it solo, but sonically it seems to me like it could fit into Paramore's discog?
is it NOT coming to apple? There is an apple option on the website but nothing comes of it when you click it.
Also i really need it on apple cus it's all I wanna listen to but because I'm the way I am I don't want to keep doing it on youtube cus I want them all to count towards my end of year data and I hate myself for caring
I really wonder what a Paramore record sounds like in a post-PFA world. Certainly not expecting After Laughter Part 2 if this single is any indication haha
Paramore has always surprised me so I trust them with everything but I am curious too because Taylor did help with this so in some ways it would seem to fit a musical direction that works for him too, at least adjacently.
Which will be finished first: my supervillain weather control machine designed to destroy Apple HQ or Apple uploading the song? I can’t wait to find out.
Yeah I don't think Hayley and Taylor will have a problem incorporating what they've learned from this musically into whatever Paramore decides to do next in a way that makes sense. Also re: touring on this I know she didn't confirm anything but idk how she does it without Taylor, tbh, given how involved he seems to have been in making the record.
Yeah makes total sense and I am very curious as to how much of this makes it back into a new Paramore album. Same but maybe she didn't want to confirm something she's not 100% sure on, maybe he's still thinking about it.
I like this a lot. I get some Muse vibes in some of the opening lines mixed with some other artists I can't think of at the moment lol. Busy day of work so I'll have to listen more closely later to form my opinions
Low-key hoping they've considered that Parahoy is the perfect place for Hayley/Petals shows and it would bring the band out of hibernation for a cruise next year, meaning an announcement this year. Everyone better speak this into existence and be there.
Great shout. The drums have a certain Red Socks Pugie to them. And the bass is pretty thick + high in the mix. Definitely got the scatty energy that Foals have at times too, on that album especially.
Now I want a Taylor side project too. If Hayley and Zac can have one, it's only fair. Then they can all tour together. Wait what if Hayley and Half Noise tour together??
