I Can't Quit On You is quickly becoming an all-timer for me. The whole song is insane but 2:08 onwards is in-fucking-sane.
The initial website sequencing makes the most sense to me. Kill Me sets the tone perfectly at the top and I Won’t Quit on You is a great closer that has this pondering, starry night mood to it. And spacing out the earwormy quirky songs with the more serious and moody thought provoking stuff is balanced out great.
I really like disappearing man as a closer. This tracklist flows quite nicely. Gonna use this for a bit!
Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party sounds so much like something Ace Enders has written. Can't put my finger on it or whether its an Early November or I Can Make a Mess song, but its on the tip of my tongue.
Lol at the Morgan Wallen shot on EDAABP Gonna get around to listening to this soon but fuck that's a good song.
making my own tracklist has made me realize how hard sequencing a record must be for artists. no wonder why these are all singles. but i also think my tracklist kinda rocks
I haven't had time to listen to this more than once but I will be shocked if this surpasses my love for the first two solo albums, no matter how good this is, those records are embedded in my soul. Absolutely brutally honest depictions of divorce and recovery from grief and trauma at a time when I needed them. I really urge people to give them another try if they're digging this (no shade at this project, the first listen was excellent).
Here’s where I’m at. Definitely like emphasizing the more upbeat singles after an opening 1-2. I think “Discovery Channel” works best after “Shibuya”… that run of “Zissou” > “Love Me Different” feels like a good chunk that I don’t want to break apart. My least favorite song at this point is “Brotherly Love” — it’s a very abrasive kind of singsong melody.
Listened through an order found on Reddit a few days ago and think this might be the way to got for me. This was their rationale for the "storyline approach." Idk if I buy into all of it, but the order flows really well.
i am at the point where I dont care how this is ordered as long as Kill Me is the opener and I wont quit on you is the closer, which is wild to me since this sort of thing should drive me nuts haha
I've never been one that cares about sequencing. Whatever the artist decides is cool with me. Really just want to get these songs on vinyl.
I feel that way about Brotherly Love too. I kind of get it and appreciate it as a song but doesn't feel like it 100% fits with the rest. I find that it's working pretty well for me after "Love Me Different" in the order I've been using.
My tracklist. 1. True Believer 2. Kill Me 3. Hard 4. Ice In My OJ 5. Glum 6. Mirtazapine 7. Negative Self Talk 8. Zissou 9. Love Me Different 10. Brotherly Hate 11. Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party 12. Blood Bros 13. Dream Girl In Shibuya 14. Whim 15. Discovery Channel 16. Disappearing Man 17. I Won’t Quit On You Wish I wasn’t biased by having listened to the website order originally before making my own. Nevertheless, I’m happy with True Believer opening the album because it’s such a unique song. First handful of songs have more of an upbeat flow for me before peaking with Mirtazapine. Then Negative Self Talk kicks off a more mid tempo but light run until EDAABP, which is the runaway standout song for me and I wanted to “earn” my way to that songs placement. After that it’s another loosely mid tempo light run until Discovery Channel which signals the beginning of the end of the album. Then honestly nothing else makes sense as the last two songs being disappearing man/I won’t quit on you - just really feels like a penultimate track and a closer. All in all, I was very surprised by how much I thoroughly enjoyed this album, definitely my favorite solo album of hers.
Finally got around to this, all great as expected but True Believer is the one, hot DAMN she is swinging with that one
Waited seven months for a clear album of the year contender to arrive and then HW massively delivers with 17 unannounced singles that technically aren't an album. Well played, Tiny Hot Topic Bitch. Well played.
