Hawthorne Heights is an American emo/alternative/post hardcore/screamo band from Dayton, Ohio, formed in 2001. Their lineup currently consists of JT Woodruff (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Matt Ridenour (bass guitar, backing vocals) Mark McMillon (lead guitar, backing vocals), and Chris Popadak (drums, percussion).

This band deserves a thread to them. Say what you will about their music, but I have always liked them, and they are one of the most genuine bands out there. They make the music they want to make, and they don’t try to cater to making singles or recapturing their popular heyday. Very under appreciated in my eyes.

Saw these guys the other night. They still put on a genuinely awesome show, and I got to meet the band members. Some of the nicest guys I’ve met at a show, you can tell they appreciate their fans.

Also they confirmed a new album is being worked on for an early 2018 release. Their last effort, Hurt, was some of the best stuff they’ve released so I am eager to hear that.

I'll see you again in 25 years Prestigious

How big was the crowd? They're one of those bands I'm fearful are close to the end. It's hard to survive as a band these days

I’d say there was a good 200 people. It was a super small venue though, so they couldn’t fit too many more in there it was packed for the size of the place. I don’t think they will be ending, they seem to be pushing forward and genuinely doing it for fun, which I respect.

But then you have idiots like someone in there who stole a vinyl off their Merch table while they played. That costs bands money.

Right? They were pissed, and rightfully so, when they came back after the show and noticed that.

    It was a good one:

Agreed but they had four openers, they had two local bands play and then two bands they brought with them, show didn’t end until almost 1am so they had a smaller setlist and trimmed some stuff

I wish they played more off of Hate live. I love almost their whole discography immensely but that EP is fantastic and so underappreciated.

I love the whole trilogy really they did a good job on it, there are definite stand outs on each of the Hate/Hope/Hurt trilogy

Challenge time if you had to take the standouts from each EP to form one 7-9 song EP what would it be?

    Ooh this is tough. Hm.

    Hate/Hurt/Hope EP

    1. Oceans
    2. Wasted In NYC
    3. Stay Awake/Stay Alive
    4. New Winter
    5. Running In Place(NIKI AM)
    6. The Darkest Times
    7. Beneath The Silver Strand
    8. Tail Lights
    9. Bury My Bones At Crystal Cove

And that’s leaving out a lot of close calls:
Four White Walls, Is This What You Wanted, Stranded, Common Crook among them I wish I could get into this list.

Personally I thought Hope was kinda weak, Hurt is standard HH fare but still super good. Hate just sounds completely unlike anything else they’ve ever done in a very welcome way

    5. Running In Place(NIKI AM)
    6. Hope

Mine would probably look something like this, definitely a tough choice though.

I would agree and rank Hope lowest of the three EPs, my EP ranking would be:
    1.Hurt
    2.Hate
    3.Hope

I hate when people act like they're too cool to listen to these guys, like, c'mon, we've all listened to Niki FM while crying in the shower.
