I've told this story here before but I was at the Seth Meyers taping that the whole Parks and Rec cast were the guests on the night the show ended (total accident, I just happened to have tickets for that day but it was the best possible outcome) After the show there was a big group waiting for them to come out, and Adam Scott was the first to come out. He literally walked right past me but I totally blew it, I was way too star struck to say anything to him (he's taller than he looks lol). I was trying to work up the nerve to say "Are we having fun yet?" but he left lol. Afterwards Retta, Nick and Aubrey came out one by one but they were on the other side so I couldn't talk to them but I saw them super close up, then Jim O'Heir came out and I told him Jerry is the best character (not my real opinion but I couldn't think of anything else to say to him lol) and he was like "I agree!", then Amy walked right by me and I somehow worked up the nerve to say she's one of the funniest people ever on SNL and she was like "Aw thanks so much", and then I got a selfie with Aziz when he came out (I literally stepped between him and his car, he probably hated me lmao). Chris Pratt actually never came out, I guess he was too famous at the time to leave that way lol. One of the coolest experiences of my life I also met NFG and Yellowcard at Warped Tour one year
Idk why but this post ending with a comma ended me. The suspense! I've only met certain musicians after shows. There's a picture of 12 year old me making the sign of the horns with Matt Heafy from Trivium, but I don't remember where it is. Perhaps my older brother still got it. At the same show, while he was waiting for the set to end to pick us up, our dad was trying to chat with Jared MacEachern, at the time Sanctity's singer (the openers) and now Machine Head's bassist. He was bored and decided to go to the merch table to chat with someone he thought to be the merch guy lol.
Does Anthony Green from Circa Survive count as famous? It was at a church basement show when he was in high school. He spent the entire show hitting on my sister in law (who was in her twenties). I knew I liked that kid from day one. He and my brother in law ended up in a band together and I used to drive them to shows/haul gear for them. Met Bam Margera during that time, but he was shitfaced and was a total asshole.
This makes me want to upload my picture with Kenan Thompson that is THE most 90s image in existence, lol. I’ve met a ton of famous people over the years either through attending or volunteering at conventions, going to concerts, and seeing lots of plays. Most of the interactions I’ve had were positive with a few outliers either being incredibly nice or fairly disappointing.
Jay leno in Burbank. My friend drove to this gas station and said this is where Jay leno gets gas. And sure enough he was there. Lead singer of the counting crows at an Apple store in Soho
Don't have anything interesting personally but when my wife worked at McDonald's she served Prince Harry on the drive thru. He ordered a 6piece chicken nugget meal. She also served Stephen Fry at a pub she was waitressing at. Oh, and on our last wedding anniversary I took her to afternoon tea at a local hotel and Tilda Swinton was arriving at the same time as us. I held the door for her.
I’ve met tons of musicians (in recent years, Lana Del Rey, Charli XCX, Dua Lipa, Clairo) the only story that’s interesting is that I watched a Shakespeare play with Rivers Cuomo (2 seats away) and we talked during intermission
Tony Danza sat right in front of my family at Young Frankenstein and he laughed harder than anyone else in the theater. It was great.
Met mike dirnt once at a show and he just walked around casually like he wasn’t in one of the biggest bands in the world, he took a picture with me and was so nice. Probably the only good experience I’ve ever had meeting a musician of a band I liked, funny that it was one of my favorite bands ever. Other than that, I’ve seen a lotttt of famous actors and I don’t care to ever meet them. I do regret not trying to get on billy on the street once, tho.
A guy I used to correspond with online years ago said he encountered Jared Leto at the movies, sat next to each other, and had a light conversation that continued after the movie until they departed. Also got a picture with him in the lobby. This was 2006-7ish. The guy asked Jared what his favorite movie is and he said Revenge of the Nerds
It didn’t happen to me but my friend met Paul McCartney in a Starbucks once, it’s her favorite band and she goes to see all the weird beetles tribute bands. He told her he couldn’t take a picture but he talked to her for a few minutes, overall a much cooler experience.
I met Heidi Gardner as she was leaving The Groundlings with all of her stuff to move to New York for SNL
Some friends and I were out looking for the Parks & Rec crew when they were shooting in DC, and we stumbled on Pratt filming outside the FBI building. He was nice and told everyone to please stand out of the shot and when they were done he'd have time for pictures. And then he stayed and took pictures with everyone who wanted one. Can't speak for him now that he's fit and famous.
Generally when I see a public figure/celebrity in the wild I don’t really feel the compulsion to say anything, but Last year I was sitting at a restaurant by myself, having a couple of drinks and working on an album review — which is something I very likely would not have been doing without being notably inspired by the works of Hanif Abdurraqib. And who sits down at the table next to me, but motherfucking Hanif Abdurraqib. I waited until he was on his way out, but it was impossible to not speak up eventually, haha. Way too perfect — felt like it almost would have been sillier to not say something. It was a bit awkward and I wished I’d thought more about what I was going to say to this complete stranger before approaching him, but he couldn’t have been cooler about it and actually stayed to chat for a few minutes.
On the flip side of that, like a month later I was ordering some coffee and Gillian Jacobs gets in line behind me. She stood next to me while we both waited for our drinks, entirely unoccupied and completely approachable — but saying something just felt super unnecessary
my friend ran into Frankie Muniz at a Five Guys in Chicago. He got a picture with him but said it looked like he was on a date
(sorry for the triple post, more keep coming to mind) I think I’ve said this on here before, but I did once witness Michelle Rodriguez walk into the movie theater I was in, visibly inebriated, alone, and going to see her own movie (Fast & Furious 6) Ran into Jason Mantzoukas at a bar once, but at the time I wasn’t very familiar with him. This was like 2012 and I hadn’t seen Parks & Rec or The League. Not much to say there other than the obvious, dude was loud as fuck
