there's just no way this series will have any sort of cultural impact at all. the first handful of episodes will be very popular, in terms of numbers, but i think it's going to get more "but why?" comments than "inject this into my veiiiiins!" comments.
And if they pull in new fans who want to continue the story, are they going to wait a year or more to see what happens next or just turn on the movies that already exist and are good, modern representations?
That’s true. The new fans may not be willing to wait a couple years in-between seasons when they can just watch the movies. I think it’s all riding on the first couple seasons. If it doesn’t get a tight hold onto the viewers then they may not finish the series.
especially with the attention span of kids these days. they'll just watch a tiktok that summarizes the entire series for them because they don't want to wait for more seasons haha.
If the Pitt can do 15 episodes a year, sure it has less demand for things like CGI and costuming but the idea that it isn't possible from a production point of view just doesn't track. They have a huge budget and will probably only be doing 8 epsidoes a season
I think the world outside of this site loves this, doesn’t hate jk Rowling, and will watch in big numbers.
people constantly forget just how small of a space on the internet this website takes up. the show is going to be enormously popular.
from what I’ve seen online is people are starting to turn on the movies in favor of how the one trailer for this looks. People actively celebrating Rowling being involved.
man game of thrones was the biggest show in the world and for like 4 or 5 seasons you could just go to a book to see what happens between seasons lol this doesnt matter at all. i fully understand not wanting this to be a thing, being angry that its being made, and i fully support the anti JK sentiment, she fucking sucks. but the fandom for this franchise is a top 5 in the world maybe top 3 lol its just incredibly silly to pretend this is going to be some ho hum run of the mill show that gets canned after 2 seasons because of low interest.
Yeah I don’t think anyone expects the first couple seasons to not be huge. Season 1 will most likely break every HBO record for most views. I’ll watch the entire thing the first weekend it’s out, most likely. But the question will be if it can maintain viewership after the first couple seasons
I think people thinking this won't be popular because J.K. Rowling is a bigot have far too much faith in the average person.
I brought this up in my group chat with my high school friends after one of them shared the trailer with us. They're all at least normie-left leaning, and the one who shared it said that he acknowledged J.K's shortcomings, but didn't care because it looked too good. I sighed audibly. The normies don't care. They should just cast different kids each season. That'll solve that problem. They're probably gonna need to recast Dumbledore at some point unless John Lithgow has discovered immortality.
Forgot to quote the other post this was in reply to re: not being able to do a season every year. Stupid joke that wasn't funny. Assuming they do all 7 books, you might be looking at a 15 year production, these kids'll be in their mid 20s by the time Deathly Hallows roles around. Lithgow will be in his 90s.
God, anyone who supports/watches this show outside of pirating it is not only NOT an ally, they are financially harming the trans community and are objectively supporting hatred. Fuck this stupid series and fuck JK Rowling. God awful human being who uses Harry Potter money to hurt trans people. Children have ended their own lives because of her. Pure evil.
