the developers choose where they work. game development is still in pretty high demand and there are lots of opportunities elsewhere. they can also just ask to be moved to different teams. and the people running the development company can say "no we don't want to develop that game" to be clear, of course the publisher isn't blameless here. a lot of the responsibility falls on their shoulders. especially when its a big company who are probably the ones telling avalanche "go build a harry potter game". I do wonder -- not that it'll happen because Rowling is a POS who wouldn't agree to it -- but in theory could WB take the Microsoft/Notch approach and completely buy her out of the franchise? Would that make things better (because the success of the franchise no longer actively benefits her) or would it really not matter cause it isn't really about money and people continuing to support the franchise still ultimately supports her and her beliefs (plus also like, now she just made way more money than she would've from royalties anyways)
she won’t ever give up the rights. as she says, the support for HP is support for TERFs in her eyes. she’ll call it hers to the grave to give her stance legitimacy.
Are people actually expecting devs to throw away job security, benefits, etc for a chance of bouncing back quickly?
“IF” there is ever to be a sequel it won’t be for a while anyways. They’re going to ride this game for as long as possible, especially with its success. I can already see a couple years worth of DLC. Quidditch
there’s no such thing as job security in game development lol. they probably laid off half the staff already now that the game has shipped.
He’s saying how much he likes that game, then joking about the way it impacts transgender individuals. Truly a new low for the site.
Innit. I tried to make a joke of equal stupidity as some of the other comments over the last few pages of this thread. I think I succeeded.
the irony of someone calling me a “fucking idiot,” because i understand that someone buying and playing a Harry Potter game doesn’t make them transphobic is quite incredible.
if we’re going through post histories mate, I see you love WWE. I’d be more willing to bet being a fan of WWE over the age of 18 makes you more likely to be a nonce than unproven Twitter accusations. Point stands playing a Harry Potter RPG doesn’t make you transphobic. Hope that helps.
Maybe you understand that. And sure, you’re not automatically transphobic for buying a video game. Probably. But you seem to not understand how buying the game, regardless of one’s views on the trans community, directly puts money in JKR’s pockets. Who has said she will be using her money to support anti trans causes. She also claims anyone who consumes HP material agrees with her hateful views. Any success of this game only emboldens her. What JKR is doing and supporting leads to death of trans people. So, yes, for making light of this, you are a fucking idiot.
Glad you see the error in your actions. You should apologize to slowheart. It would be a good first step.
I do not need an apology from a grown man that listens to All Time Low in 2023. Maybe watching wrestling is bad but I can promise him that’s worse.
Yet, the apology would help them. If it’s sincere. You don’t have to accept it. But they need to own it and feel remorse.
