Is Marcello playing the new main villain in this? Watched the trailer a few times and I am suspecting he is. Also based on the rules of lazy sequel screenwriting I bet Shooter is gonna play the role of Chubbs and be Happy's new mentor. They're gonna Rocky III it.
what were some of the jokes that didn’t hold up? a lot of the dream sequences are kinda cringey / misogynistic. that’s all i can recall of the top of my head
I remember that being way more prominent in Billy Madison, although I'm sure it's a good amount of Happy Gilmore, too.
Anyone going into either Happy Gilmore film expecting high-brow, intelligent humour is a fucking moron. Switch your brain off for 2 hours. Watch golf balls hit people and Sandler be Sandler. I can't wait. It's highly likely going to be such a dumb, bad movie filled with nostalgia-bait that I'm all in.
I also just watched this again for the first time in forever. Sandler doesn’t really do the silly voice in this. Maybe over the intercom at the beginning, but that leads to a very funny punchline. I still thought it was hilarious
The hyper-defensiveness of Sandler over the last two-three years is something to behold. People were more accurate about him in the Jack and Jill era.
I don't think his 2005-2015ish run should represent him any more than than his 90s-early aughts run, or any more than his current re-evaluation. He's a charismatic, generally likable guy that made a lot of comedies people grew up with. I understand the desire to root for him
He owns the production company and very few people can see much artistic intent here other than to make money. When the product is bad, it should be avoided or criticized.
Sure, but is it not easy to see why people would want to give him his flowers after some surprisingly well-received dramatic roles and stand-up specials 35 years into his career?
I either haven't seen the movie from the beginning in years or that part is not on the cable TV versions because I honestly didn't even know this was a thing. And I saw it in theaters when it came out and have no memory of it lmao Also just realized the older version of Adam Sandler's son is played by Dustin Hoffman's son. Had no idea that was him
I’m kinda fascinated by the 2011-2013 Sandler run of movies - Jack and Jill That’s My Boy Grown Ups 2 3 of possibly the most unhinged studio comedies that got a major theatrical release. Are they good? Honestly maybe. Jack and Jill and That’s My Boy are fucking funny. And Grown Ups 2 is an improvement over the first (partially due to the lack of Schneider)
When does Sandler’s golden age end? Controversially, I might say after The Waterboy. I feel like Big Daddy is a push in a new direction. He is the character/star/hook in Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, the Wedding Singer and The Waterboy. I feel like he is an everyman in Big Daddy, no real defining characteristics for Sonny.
Big Daddy is maybe my favorite. I also love the grown ups movies because they’re just dumb and fun to watch in the summer.
