It still blows my mind that he’s a Republican, but it also sort of tracks given that he’s almost 60 and still thinks a golf ball to the groin is funny enough that it happens twice in the trailer alone. sorry you all, I’ll stay outta the way!
The first one was such a product of Sandler’s age, the movie’s limited budget and a ton of now-dead legendary character actors. Like sorry, but a million cameos can’t replace Richard Kiel, Carl Weathers and Joe Flaherty.
Will watch day 1, but this looks terrible as expected. Should have left it alone. Still remember seeing the original in the movie theater!
What amazes me about the original is that Sandler’s acting is both the worst thing about it and the glue that holds everything together
Comedy legacy sequels = bad rehashes and nostalgia service. That being said, I'm in and can't fucking wait. It looks self-aware enough in the vein of most comedy legacy sequels (ie. Coming 2 America) where it knows it won't touch the first, but it's not trying to. It's giving us dumb, silly joy for an hour and a half. I'll take it. The internet will still tear it down and make comparisons though saying it ruined their childhood and it's not as good without Weathers, Barker, etc. because people are dumb. Hal L. is one of Ben Stiller's greatest characters ever, so more of that is always good, even if the rest is "meh".
i might need to petition the court for mod privileges in this thread only so i can start warning people if the sandman hate kicks up again. i’m getting angry
I watched the original last night for the first time in more than a decade. A lot of dated stale humor that doesn't hit anymore. The Bob Barker fight scene is still really funny, and Christopher McDonald absolutely kills it as Shooter McGavin.
