Always really liked them, but not sure about this one just yet. Will definitely need a few spins before I make up my mind. Anyone else hearing The 1975 - Somebody else in the chorus of "Through Glass"? Funny, since I read an article yesterday where they cited 1975 as one of the bands they listen to.
This is very 90's grunge and alt rock influenced so far. Not that far from the direction Lower Than Atlantis and Underoath went in their recent material.
Does anyone remember the band I Am Empire? Brian McTernan produced one of their later records. This is very reminiscent of their stuff as well.
Yeah the grunge influence is very present. This is definitely growing on me though, and I do appreciate that they're trying something different. Black is an early favorite, for sure.
Yeah I’m not really liking the record at all aside from like 3 songs. Happy for the dudes though- they probably will gain some fans with this. For me it’s always gonna be: Dissonants >>>>>>>
I particularly loved Kingdom Come, Black, and Monster. The rest is okay but this is pretty much an ordinary hard rock album, which doesn't appeal to my current tastes. I feel like there are a few bands doing the same thing much better right now. Hope they'll find some success with it though. edit: Because I don't like throwing hints without names, my point is that I'd rather listen to Lower Than Atlantis, Young Guns, Danko Jones or Nothing But Thieves in the same genre.
I agree completely. I think it’s a very safe record and there are other bands doing this style better. With that being said, I think this change in direction will make them far more accessible and get them on some bigger tours.
Unimagine will always be my favorite album by them by a long shot. That being said, I still find this one really enjoyable.
I still think their first album has some solid songs on but the production/mixing is a bit grating. Unimagine is definitely when this band came to life though.
So my problem with all their past releases is that they have too many samey songs, so I am really glad that they experimented with more stuff on this one, its what I wanted. Unfortunately the ratio of great to bland/forgettable tracks is still pretty much the same. There are still some killers though. Black is really awesome, reminds me a lot of Fightstar.
Now, I just had my first listen. I feel kinda underwhelmed. Not that is particular bad, just most songs don't fit my taste. Overthinking and Through Glass stick to me though. Nevertheless, I will see them live Nov 1st and until then I will give it more spins of course. I can still remember how my first time listening to them, Antarctica being it, blew me away and they gave me good times, so I will always give them some leeway.
I think the Busted reunion kind of botched their plans, and it feels like it's Charlie's main priority as they're releasing another new album soon.
This isn't necessarily a bad album, it just comes across as a collection of songs. Majority of songs on here are strong, just wish they didn't come across so much as a bunch of radio hits. It's pretty clear this album is their attempt to get more radio play and I really hope it does help them. I could imagine they'd want to get out of the scene they were grouped into with their past albums, just wish it didn't come at the cost of their better lyrics and more interesting musical ideas.
I don’t really see any of these are potential hits or super catchy - it sounds too restrained. Their best asset is his voice and I think he holds back and the record suffers because of it.
I agree to an extent, but it is pretty catchy and fun, could see them trying to fit into the same lane as nothing but thieves.
Me when first listening to Monster: “Those ‘WOO-WOO!!’ gang vocals are kinda gimmicky... did they really need to do that?” Me when listening to Monster now: “WOO-WOO!!!!”
