This is fantastic. The NIN influence is definitely there in the instrumentation, but she still incorporates her own sound and the diversity of styles on display continually surprised me.
This is the first Halsey album I’d consider great. Was surprised it was more modern NIN than classic (Was really hoping for an unhinged “Experiment on Me” rocker), which is absolutely fine. It feels more like a vision than her trying to cover a lot of different bases to varying results. Pretty impressed.
I will need to give this a couple more spins before I can suppress the feeling of wanting to hear Trent on these songs. Like I Phantom hear him in my head. Obv Halsey is a much better singer so I’m sure I’ll get used to it because so far this is extremely good.
This is excellent. I like that, despite the NIN undertones, it still feels very much like a natural evolution of Halsey's previous work, like the album they always wanted to make. I'm curious to see how the film connects to it and if it will make me gain a wider understanding of the album's scope.
This is already my AOTY. It’s the first time they have put out a cohesive record from start to finish. Easier Than Lying is everything I wanted from this project. Also, Honey is what pop-punk should sound like in 2021, really refreshing to hear the fresh sound Trent’s production added to that genre.
pretty fun. better than i expected. the lighthouse is a highlight. I'll probably come back to this a good amount which is more than I can say about the prior releases.
I was a little underwhelmed on my first listen, but it grew on me pretty significantly the second time around. I definitely wish there was more in the vein of "Nightmare" and "Experiment on Me", but I'm also cool with the lean-in toward the style of the MGK verse, which is the only good thing on that entire record. Not sure this will hit Manic heights for me, but I definitely dig it.
"Bells In Santa Fe", "Honey', "1121", "The Lighthouse" & "Ya'aburnee" are my favorite songs on the album. I think the album rollout really capitalized on H's pregnancy, but the album really seems more generally about growing up and making peace with adulthood. This album is so beautiful, I've listened to it straight through over 3 times already and I love it more each time. Can't wait 'till they go back out on tour.
I’m through the first 6 songs. Immediately her best work. No question. I don’t care much for “Lilith” or “Girl is a Gun” but wow the other 4 are really fantastic. “You asked for this” is truly exceptional.
honey is fun. saw grohl was on the drums. and dave sitek from tv on the radio is on you asked for this.
My favorites are without question “You asked for this” and “I am not a woman, I’m a god” after my first listen. The latter being one of the best song I’ve heard this year.
