Fun fact: I have never been scared by any Halloween movie...and I’ve watched them every Halloween since I was 7-8 years old. Meh.
Yeah slashers have never been scary to me. The haunted/possessed stuff is what gets me. I love the simplicity of slashers though.
I loved this and a friend I went with hated it so much she said she would have left if we weren’t there together, haha.
I enjoyed this. I thought it kinda retread a lot of the same ground as the original had though. But a lot of parts were intense and enjoyable, and I was caught up for most of it... I think it ended pretty weak though. Super abrupt like y'all were saying, I just felt like I didn't get the conclusion that could've happened. I think it was a fun movie though, it was effective; it creeped me out. I could've done without some of the teenager stuff but all in all... I liked it. Jamie Lee Curtis killed it, whoever played Michael did a sweet job, and despite the pretty shitty twist towards the end... I was a fan. Overall I am pleased. Hopefully there's more slasher films to comeJust gonna spoiler my whole post b/c U know
My favorite part about this movie is knowing Michael post kill decided “hmmm I think I’ll put this pumpkin in the fish tank.”
Reading more interviews with DGG, Knowing how fast and cheap this was made (by today’s standards anyway) it’s a miracle this wasn’t a total disaster.
Anyone seen it a second time yet? I wanna go again. A buddy made a point that it kinda has scream 4 vibes. Not great, not bad. Not a bad comparison I’d say.
I loved Scream 4, that was so much fun. This was okay, it had a few cool moments but not that exciting.
If i'm rating this one, i'd give it a 7.5/10. My pros: -I loved how relentless Michael was in this. 40 years locked up, and he gets let loose by his doctor and makes full use of his time given haha. -There were some real nostalgic elements to this movie I loved that I haven't felt from a slasher film in some time. For instance, Ray was the main joker of the family and since he dealt with none of their previous trauma, He just does his best to be funny and lighthearted so as to keep their spirits up. There is always a character like this in other slashers, so when he went outside to talk to the cops I knew he was a goner and felt that "Ohh no, not him go back inside!" feeling I had as a kid. -Michael's movement and look was on point. Every time he was in frame in the background I got creeped out. -Jamie Lee Curtis was perfect in her role. I enjoyed the part where her granddaughter seemed like she was getting through to her, and almost made her feel guilty in how her way of living destroyed her family. But she doesn't regret it, and says she can live with the consequences so that she's never a victim again. That was awesome. -I was worried they wouldn't have a solid explanation as to how Michael gets his mask. Having him go to the graveyard (the first place he went when he first escaped in the original movie as well) and stalk the journalists from there was a solid move to make, and buyable for me. -The sequence in the backyard with the teen guy who was drunk may be one of the best Halloween sequences ever. -The easter eggs were noticeable, but not shoehorned. I may have missed a few, but him throwing Laurie off the balcony, looking down and not seeing her was easily my favorite. My cons: -The twist was good, certainly original for the series, but not nearly as fleshed out as it needed to be in order for it to be effective. It was both partially because of the actor who was forgettable, and his lack of screen time. There should've been more in depth dialogue regarding why he wanted to let Michael loose, and better delivery of such ideas. -Why did Michael let his doctor live when he sabotaged the bus, yet later didn't hesitate? (My only half explanation for this is that Michael seems to get off on killing women, who put up less of a fight and seem utterly terrified of him, or men who get in his way. If the doctor played dead or hid from him then I suppose he wouldn't have been a priority until he had Michael locked in the car) -Why so much gore? Not that there shouldn't be any, but for a movie that doesn't shy away from off-screen kills, it was kind of jarring that they'd not show multiple deaths that would've been horrifying to watch, yet show a head lit up by a flashlight with the innards missing. -The abrupt ending was kind of a let down. Though, I like that whether or not we do get a sequel, this is an ending that is acceptable and I can live with it. Not knowing whether or not Michael made it out. -Where are these kid's parents!? My mom would've been flipping shit and out searching for me the second she caught wind of a killer on the loose in our town.
Oh and also, the trailers gave away the entire movie. I wish I had gone in without watching, at the very least, the second trailer. Interested to see the deleted scenes, which seem to have been used quite a bit for the second one.
An explanation that I had regarding the questionable ending: People said they wonder why, after living in paranoia for 40 years, Laurie would just leave the house without making sure he's dead. Well A) she set the whole house on fire, and her daughter had to pull her away from the steps and get her to leave the house before they were stuck inside. On top of that, Michael stabbed Laurie in the room with the mannequins, so she definitely had to go to the hospital likely asap.
I would have gone nuts for the tracking shot if it wasn’t ruined in the trailers and even comic con twitter hype before that
Yeah seriously. It was an awesome scene, but they showed the ENTIRE tracking shot minus the gore shots of his victims in the trailer. I was a bit annoyed thinking it went on for longer.
Glad to hear it. I wasn't blown away by it, but I love Carpenter and I loved the experience. It's also easily the best one since the original 2 imho.
Here's a not-quite-final version of the screenplay, I'm not very far along but it's already got some interesting differences. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1pqJdnHfOpOdfEMJ5YJtohsgfoFf3hm2j So far, worth nothing...no peanut butter penis line, an extra scene with Laurie and her daughter, adds to her daughter's character development a bit. Also the podcaster notes that Laurie has had a variety of jobs over the years but is currently unemployed. Also, the shitty bf has a reason for disappearing, he gets into an argument with cops outside the school and they take him away in their car.
Enjoyed it more second time. Still similar gripes...picked up on some more weird dialogue and edits too. Have some opinions where it could End better that I didnt think of it before.
