Yeah second or third fave. The doctor was stupid and the twist was wack. Loved the nods and the music and think there is room to explore more. Felt it ended pretty lame and sudden after a great set up in the house. Curious as to why the fates of the characters were what they ended up being...hmm. I enjoyed it.
As someone who has never seen any of the previous movies, I enjoyed this. I tend to like a lot of movies that people, especially on this site, don’t though so I don’t know how valid my opinion on this is.
Can’t say I’m surprised that people are finding ways to dislike this. I’m a huge Halloween fan and I thought it was great. So many aspects of it were great.
Like some of the reviews mentioned...I didn’t like how some of the humor undercut the suspense/eerie mood. Also could have gone for more drawn out stalking shots around town.
Also can’t understand the motivation for dropping the family thing when obviously it remains a thing...
I thought this was great. I definitely like it more than Halloween 2-6, and it was nice to be able to ignore all those sequels for this one. I do feel like the comedy was taken a bit too far, but other than that I had a great time. It felt like this one really emphasized the sheer brutality of Michael, which I liked. I still need to watch H20, Resurrection, and the two Zombie films, so I can't speak on those.
I loved the good stuff and winced at the stuff that didn’t work. Overall, I think my ranking is like this right now having only seen 2018 once: H H4 2018 H20 H3 H2 H6 H5 None others count for me. Lol Overall, I’m just glad this exists. Fun fact (and no spoilers): DGG mentioned he had a whole prologue that was a flashback to the house from the end of the 1978 film but John Carpenter told him to cut the scene and rust the audience. Thing was, they’d already started construction on the set. I mean they went out to the original location, measured everything, and started building a replica of the house. Luckily, since they had the structure built already, they repurposed it for the finale of this film. It’s not obvious unless you know but it’s a cool little Easter egg.
The ending before reshoots was even more lame. Mike just gets shot with an arrow and limps off into the woods. I can’t believe they thought that would work.
I will start pointing out some positives, because they do exist. I’ll start with this song which rules
I wasn't really too interested in the plot side of it anyway. How is DGG's technical ability as a director? I've heard a lot of good stuff about the cinematography and such. Decent?
Cinematography is too modern and bright IMO and doesn’t give it a horror vibe. There are a couple cool shots though.
It is too bright. I also didn't love the "closeness" of a lot of shots. I prefer the long/distant shots to give "The Shape" some more dimension.
There were so many fricken nods it was honestly hard to keep track. As a love letter to the franchise, it was great. I sincerely hope they move onto a more original take now with the family...
