Fucking nailed it. For better or worse, each entry in the DGG trilogy swung for the fences and I appreciate that.
Surprised there haven’t been more comparisons to IT for this movie considering the themes of evil spreading throughout a town via the long standing effects of murderous sewer dweller. The likeness sorta begins and ends there but still
Anyway I finally got around to this and without tracking back on too much conversation, I’m definitely team “did not hate this”. It wasn’t great, but my biggest gripe with it is less to do with the movie itself and more about how they chose to end the trilogy with it. The majority would’ve been a lot more effective within the second installation, in fact both movies would’ve benefitted from it
This movie was baffling. A lot of parts would've worked well in another movie, like everyone says, and this was not a good conclusion. Other parts were like straight out of a bad comedy. I think I liked it but it kinda sucked lol
I think Kills will be the one in the trilogy to become “underrated”. The mob and hospital scenes are rough, but the rest is entertaining slasher stuff. I would love to see an edit with 15-20 minutes of those scenes removed.
Kills is better than Ends solely because it feels like a Halloween film and some dork that gets bullied by band kids never wrestles Michael to the ground.
Why are people so hung up on that? Michael gets knocked down literally all the time. This movie also sets up that he’s exponentially weaker than he ever has been. And then Michael gets back up and kills the kid!
The movie doesn’t set up that he’s weaker than he’s ever been. There’s no explanation for Michaels weakness and why he’s living in the sewer. They spent the first 75 percent of the movie building up some dork who wasn’t even involved with the first two movies when fans wanted a finale between Lori/Michael. Given how vicious Michael was in Kills, this movie is just an extreme disservice to his character and doesn’t fit the trilogy at all. Also when Michael gets knocked down he usually instantly kills whoever is attacking him or at least puts up a fight. He kllled the kid much later after he had already been hurt lol
When has someone ever wrestled Michael to the ground and steal his mask? I can’t think of that ever happening. Also the “weakest” Michael has ever been makes no sense. According to this film he gets stronger as he kills, implying he is weak from not killing for 4 years. Yet he went 40 years without killing and in confinement in the 2018 film and broke out stronger than ever. It doesn’t add up.
He’s an old man that got the shit kicked out of him by an angry mob and now lives in a sewer where he hides from people, hoping for the occasional vulnerable individual (in this case, fully unconscious) to wander by so he can drag them in and kill. That spells it out pretty clearly imo. This should also go without mentioning that Corey is clearly experiencing a surge in whatever juice Michael’s been drinking all these years due to his inner evil being unleashed. The plot is rushed and doesn’t belong at the end of this trilogy but that specific scene is such a weird thing for people to hone in on Also yes it takes him a little longer to get to Corey. In this time, we get the majority of this movie’s kills. Feels pretty worth it!
It hasn’t happened, but… I also never said it did? Haha I understand the trilogy doesn’t make sense as a whole, which has been pointed out by many posters here that aspects of this movie would’ve worked better earlier in the trilogy. If I wasn’t being clear enough, my posts are specifically referring this movie as a standalone and not the others. The trilogy does not set up Michael to be in a vulnerable state but this installation does
that static shot of Corey and Michael wrestling is honestly one of the coolest moments in this whole trilogy tbh this film coulda had Michael take off his mask, look directly at the camera and do a full monologue about bullying, I'd still rate it higher than Kills
Still thinking of this movie and one of the many things that just never made sense is Laurie in the 2018 movie has her house decked out in bear traps and loaded with guns waiting for him for 40 years while he was locked up, but now in this one ONLY 4 years later and he’s on the loose she’s just living out her best life, doors unlocked, plant a garden, lets get brunch etc lol
Lmao right. It’s all preparation and vengeance until your daughter is murdered by the man you’re hunting and he gets away, pretty chill vibes after that
Also the way Allyson’s character was handled was poor. Her mom is murdered by a psychopath, but 4 years later she instantly falls for the guy who accidentally killed a kid and later on when he tells her that he killed someone she just brushes it off like it’s no big deal.
