I had super low expectations for this (thought the second album was terrible, but loooooove days are gone) but I am loving this on my first listen.
The problem with the second is that it has a lot of similar sounding songs and ‘repetitive’ choruses. I personally think this album builds on the sound they had going off before and builds on them massively.
I think Something to Tell You is way better than the debut. This is obviously their best by a wide margin though
I had no idea their second album was mixed with fans. Both of their other albums were awesome for me. This one is such a huge step forward for them though. Definitely feels almost like a culmination of what they want to sound like. It feels like the previous two records have been working towards this one. About half way through and it's great. Leaning On You is fantastic too. Love it on the first listen.
I’m in a similar boat. Love Days Are Gone, Something to Tell You was basically DOA for me when it dropped (the definition of mid) and this one is for sure their best.
I went back to Something to Tell You last night for the first time in full since around the time it dropped. It’s got some solid tracks, namely the singles, but there’s very little that album does for me that I can’t get out of Days Are Gone and I generally find the songs on that one to be much more memorable.
My only experience with Haim is watching some of their set last year at Pitchfork, just because I was there and was curious. Is this the album to start if I want to get into them?
Hmmm. Days are Gone or this. I’d probably just start with Days are Gone because it’s the debut. Something to Tell You can wait, it’s got a couple gems but it’s mostly just their Green Albun. “Right Now (Live)”, “Want You Back”, and “Little of Your Love” are really the only songs I go back to on Something to Tell You.
Ha yeah I like all the songs, including that one, just specifically that alarm intro is kind of annoying, first time I thought it was real lol
The production choices here are immaculate. I also need a whole Joni Mitchell-style album from Danielle in the vein of “Man from the Magazine”.
I had my first listen of this in the middle of the night last night when I woke up and couldn’t fall back to sleep and let me just say the alarm noise almost killed me.
