I am binging this (I tried before but didn't finish). On 1x5, the twist where the manic pixie dream guy Ava does drugs and hooks up with was doing a Leaving Las Vegas thing...holy fuck lol
This is double awesome as I just found it had been renewed for seasons 3 and 4 and that season 3 is out :)
I am working my way through season 3 right now and I didn't realize this wasn't the final season until like 2 episodes in.
They must have felt confident in getting a season 4 (yes I know it’s renewed now) with how they handled the finale. Really good episode and fun new direction ahead
Kayla having a bat mitzvah because she was jealous of her Jewish friends was so real and I love what they did with her character this season
Along with all the characters, Kayla's arc did such a good job of showing how people are complicated and not just one thing or another. She's definitely got her downfalls but they did a great job of showing how she's an asset
The show definitely has some flaws but I simply don’t care because it’s so good and so fun and the cast is perfect.
The only real criticism In had for this season is that they didn't have enough for Helen Hunt's network head character to do storyline wise. It almost feels like that was intended to be a bigger role and was cut down. I'm sure she'll play a bigger part next season though .
Yeah that finale was this show’s best episode to date. My issue with this show is I feel the premise and cast lend themselves to be something more biting and profane (kind of like Veep) but it chooses not to be that. I feel like it never reaches its full potential. I still think it’s phenomenal for what it is.
Loved this season and loved the ending. They've done a great job of organically following the story / characters through, and making the dynamic shifts feel earnest / earned. The after episode clip of the finale really showed how well thought out everything was and how season 4 got to where season 4 will be. Some of the jokes that really got me: "I can't follow the fucking boxes" (RE - graphic novels). "Hows vegas?" "It's good but I can't find any vegetables here". I have never seen Veep but from what I know about it, it's very satirical and over the top. This definitely has a ton of bite, but it's all grounded / realistic and there isn't really much that happens that I'd roll my eyes at and think "that'd never happen". I'm going to say further Emmys for this season for sure.
