Holy shit that was her?!? I thought that was her voice, but couldn't see her through the Andorian get-up. Amazing.
would like to hear your thoughts on how it could end, even if via DM. i have a small theory too, but idk how much water it holds
I'm half expecting a spotlight shift and that Ava becomes the focal point and a big star, and Deborah steps out of the limelight to fully support Ava's turn in front of the camera. But there really hasn't been anything to justify that yet, and I don't know how the plot would get us to that type of moment with just 8 episodes left. Maybe Deborah struggles to sell tickets, Ava takes a go at stand up and goes viral, and Deborah picks her to open or something. Not sure... It was a pre season thought that hasn't really been given any backing yet in the first couple of episodes. I was also thinking of it more in a way where Deborah doesn't get a last hurrah and her career is what it is, but for once she genuinely accepts what she's had and achieved, and is happy to see someone else rise. A true selfless moment of friendship between the 2 not driven by guilt, mutual goals etc.
that's a lot better than what i had (i think the fact that the MSG show is on 9/11 invites the possibility of Deborah making a 9/11 joke and bombing in some capacity - kind of adding an additional stain to her legacy, but one she's not as upset about).
Eh... I don't think there's ever been anything to show Ava wants the spotlight or to be in front of the camera instead of behind it, or that Deborah would ever go out happy (eventually die - even if it's well after the events of the season) without being in it. I've just been thinking of the adage of 'give the audience what they want but not what they expect', and what would be an emotional and thematic ending to the show for the 2 leading ladies. However, 8 episodes is just not enough time to establish my theory which is why I said it's probably lame and not at all realistic. At some point though Deborah has to be truly selfless (imo) and Ava has to show growth towards her own career that isn't tied to Deborahs. I think we've beaten that theme to death each season to where it's borderline become repetitive, so I see that relationship needing to break and change completely to have the ending be emotionally rich. It wouldn't be satisfying to have them truly go out as enemies on separate arcs, nor would I be satisfied if it was undercooked and it was just a 'well I got a new job, thanks for everything' kind of thing. I also don't think it will end with Deborah dying and forcing Ava to find her own new path. Either way, I love the show and am spending more time invested in how it'll end because I'll be sad to see it go. I don't normally theorize, and I've always ended up pleasantly surprised so I'm ready to just watch it play out.
was not expecting two episodes tonight, both fantastic! two next week too! then one every week up until the finale on 5/28
great episode (i called Bob buying all the Garden tix), but how the hell are they gonna wrap this up next week?
Agree on the Weeds part, but I've borderline disliked this season. and feel its been both too convenient / corny, yet at other times outlandish and far fetched. A few stand out all time episodes / moments, but basically good bones but clunky execution? One more episode to tie it all up...
I have loved this season and plan to start season one again when it ends and do a full rewatch. I really like that Ava's show is essentially Hacks and all I want from the finale is Wins all round for the main cast.
even with the show almost over i love that it’s the type of show that matter-of-factly references something like 50 cent buying up ja rule tickets to fuck with him
I was thinking it would be pretty amazing, yes unconventional, if the finale is her entire standup show and nothing else, could be a pretty fitting cap on the show
I'll be the dissenter and say this season has been comfortably my least favourite - the fewest laughs, the least believable plot of the show, and for the first time, the occasional but undeniable sense that I've been tricked into watching woke Entourage with a lower budget.
