Absolutely. Horror has always been a genre that could be super progressive and delve into topics or themes that others wouldn’t get away with and then be incredibly reductive and toxic in the same breath. Sometimes it’s the work itself being misogynistic and sometimes it’s the audience projecting their own feelings into the characters. You see that a ton with prestige TV as well. That’s another area where I could write for AGES about the differences between misogynistic portrayals and feminist portrayals and how problematic fanbases tie into them.

Oh yeah for sure, the slasher genre in particular seems to be the catalyst for a lot of the toxic tropes like gratuitous nudity. It’s wild to think that Jason X and The Babadook are from the same genre of film lol

little of both but a lot of the latter. i am a casual Star Wars guy at best, seen all the main ones a handful of times but never seen Solo or any of the spin off series or tv shows. ep 9 is gonna be a cultural touchstone thing tho and i wanna rewatch 4-8 now that Disney plus is a thing. she asked to join on her own accord.
