Sure! For Forever is probably my favorite, but Waving Through a Window and You Will Be Found are also high on my list. Unlike a lot of shows I’m into this isn’t one where I think a less common song is secretly the best, the big ones definitely deserve the praise they get.

My frustrations range from tiny moments to big aspects of the story. I really don’t appreciate the weirdly casual homophobia that’s included as comic relief. Obviously bullying and high schoolers being terrible is an important part of the story, so they could have used that in a way that’s justified and deconstructed, but they never go that way and it feels super out of place in a play about acceptance and being better to people. Jared as a whole is a character that I think sticks out in a negative way, mostly because of the lack of depth and how he’s used in the story compared to other people.

I also don’t think this is a story where a happy/moving Spring Awakening-type ending works. Evan does truly heinous things and they never REALLY dig deep enough to explore how much he has hurt people or what damage was done. I don’t think ending on a hopeless note would fit with the message they want to send about growth, but it also seems disingenuous to just cut to, “Oh things are fine, I’m totally cool now, most likely everyone will forgive me,” instead of something more realistic for him.

I also agree that the first act is pretty crazy full as far as the best songs go, so a few scenes closer to the end don’t really pack as much of a punch as I might have wanted. Some of that is just a meta criticism about the songs not holding up on their own like they do in the actual play. So Big/So Small WRECKED me when I was in the first row and felt completely overwhelmed by how much she was putting into it, but listening to it as just a track in an album it never hits me very hard.

I think that covers most of it. I still love so much about what they do, but it isn’t a show that I love unconditionally like a few others.

Those are great songs, plus Requiem was pretty impactful as well.

I think all good these are fair, you definitely have more of a positive take on it than I gathered previously. I definitely agree about Jared, although I get it too because there are kids like that but I think maybe he should've transformed a bit by the end.

I definitely don't feel like Evan got much repercussions for all the harmful shit he did for sure, about the only thing was he didn't get "the girl."

I enjoyed the story overall though and felt like it was decently important, just smaller choices like you said that could really make it even more impactful

I like Requiem a lot too. The Murphys deserved a lot more focus in my opinion. Zoe getting kind of sidelined as a love interest was something else I didn’t appreciate, especially since that was one of the creepiest aspects of what Evan did. I’d definitely watch another act just focusing on their family as real people and not how they relate to Evan or Connor.
