I really want to get a Switch, but I dunno if I can justify spending $300 on one. I haven't played video games in over a decade so I'm not sure if it would get much use or not.

I love my Switch, but then I play video games most every day.

 

Seeing people playing them in public always looks like fun, but I know it would be pretty wasted on me. I haven’t played a portable system since like the SP.

How easy/hard is it to pick up on the controls/gameplay for someone who hasn't playing anything in a while? I grew up on NES but after PS2 when the dual joysticks came into effect, I kind of gave up.

That's fair, plus it has the bigger screen and can be docked/connected to the TV--I admittedly play it almost exclusively handheld though.

Honestly, you might be fine. There are plenty of old-school-inspired games that you could play to adjust to what you remember and improve on until you feel ready for other games. Some barely require more input than a couple button taps here and there. I think anyone could pick it up easily enough.

 

some games can be like $10--not all are $50+, usually just the triple-A titles.
