Oh, didn't know about that, good to know! I'll have to look into it. I'm not near the SF rescue but have a vet near my apartment, so I can at least do check ups and whatnot fairly easily.

 

you'll get through this, @Kate. just remember it's a phase and that it won't last forever. we all go through depressive bouts from time to time and hopefully you'll learn something about yourself from the experience. I wish you all the luck in the world

I was nervous many years ago when my roommates said they wanted to get a cat to deal with our mouse problem. they had all had cats as kids but I never did so I was super unsure of my ability to be a cat parent. she ended up being super easy, obviously all cats are different, but for the most part you give them stuff to eat and a place to shit and they're golden. plus pets and cuddles obviously.

 

I might have to check this out. I have bad social anxiety--I feel uncomfortable with people acknowledging even just my existence lol--not in that they ignore me but that they dont ignore me and look at me. why are they looking, dont ugh

Maybe try getting 1 at a time. I'm just getting my second after figuring out the 1st one for 6 years. I probably could have gotten a second a long time ago but never got around to it. I put the litterbox in a closet located in the hallway. It's like his own personal bathroom lol. I scoop the litter every morning before I leave for work and I don't have any smell issues. He's actually more clean than most humans and always smells like fresh laundry. I'm guessing it's from the type of litter I use?

They're pretty low maintenance overall. I love dogs but don't have time to walk and play with them everyday. My cat usually sleeps all day while I work and wrecks havoc all evening/night while I'm asleep lol.

 

True, but you did also have roommates to lean on. I didn't have an outlet, my fears were inside me and I didn't have anywhere to reliable turn.

I think my current goal is to just get my place prepped and ready, then contemplate it while visiting my parents for christmas and playing with their super chill cat. Then once I return home, I'd have like a week where I'd be home and have time to not worry about anything but dealing with a cat, if I adopted when i got back. Give me time to adjust without have work on top of it.

 

I've always believed my cat to have come from an abusive household. she was very reticent to open up at first but having her for the last few years, she's way less apprehensive than she was and through our time together, I can tell she really loves me and feels safe with me, and that's important. knowing (or rather not knowing so much) that she's probably been through a lot in her life makes me take the responsibility of being her owner way more serious and I do everything I can to make her as comfortable and at ease as possible. she's my world

True. I just worry the kitty will be bored and unstimulated when I'm gone for like 10 hours during the week. That and all the fosters I follow on IG favor adopters who will take two together so my views on it might be warped. haha

wish I had a closet they could use. The only real options are the living room or bathroom. what litter do you use?
