It was a school night

I know we're not in school I just love that phrase

 

Laura's like actually educated on TV and movies (I say movies she says films Dylan says cinema) whereas I'm not at all so I get intimidated showing her some things that I know are bad and still like for whatever stupid reason

Not always cuz it's embarrassing but mainly because I don't like wasting people's time

 

I mentioned that my work holiday party was on Saturday but i'm just sitting here cracking up remembering this, they were raffling off some prizes and one of them was a Roomba and when they announced the winner there was a very audible "FUCK, NOOOOOOO" from the crowd

 

Sometimes I do this but I’m both parties at the same time.

 

wait did the person who won the roomba say it or someone else?

 

If it's music or comedy I definitely am both parties at the same time

I'm p sure it was someone else but we haven't been able to confirm, though it would probably be funnier if it was the winner like "god dammit I wanted the Shark brand instead!!"

 

I'm always worried I'll reccomend something to someone and they'll hate it

Same because I know more than normies but less than people who are really into film

 

I have to be in the mood for certain comedies to the same extent that some of you are about challenging dramas. I have to very much be in the right mindset for something ridiculous if it’s brand new to me or else I might hate it forever. That’s as far as general silly choices go, if it’s a truly BAD movie to watch as a failure I could do that basically any time.

 

Thank you I'm happy and proud but kinda depressed because I remember going with my mom when she got her 1 year chip at AA in like 09 and she's been back to drinking for so long now and we have no relationship anymore and it just sucks

 

i was gonna say either the roomba is way more liked or way more hated than i thought, there is no middle ground apparently

 

Yeah there is the other parent to worry about, plus what they get with other kids

I just try to limit her time in it and direct her to other activities

 

I'm not gonna lie I was pretty sad I didn't win it so I totally get the "fuck, no" attitude

 

oh sorry to hear that. yeah that sucks that such a positive achievement can also have such a negative psychological connection associated with it

 

Yeah I just have to remember I'm not her and it's gonna be alright and that I have a very very good life

 

I’m always very careful about what I recommend to random people because I know my tastes are not necessarily universal. Some of my favorites only get mentioned to people I know very, very well.

I know a lot about film and never get tired of learning more, but I try to not get SO bogged down in “true cinema” kind of thinking that I end up sucking all of the joy and meaning out of it for myself. I’ve always tried to follow Roger Ebert’s advice about meeting a movie where it is and not trying to fit everything into the same box. Sometimes that doesn’t work though and I revisit something from my childhood and ruin every good memory I have because it’s just objectively awful.

I'm trying to get better about being generous that what I like is good regardless of others
