I've got a friend that is a bonafide Kevin Smith guy and it bums me out. But he's only 27, so he might grow out of it.

I was definitely a Viewaskewniverse fan in the late 90s/early 2000s, and would still probably defend the first 4-5 movies, but once he started doing the speaking tours/podcasting/Comic Book Men, etc. he completely lost me.

I mean full transparency I thought Tusk and Red State were both relatively entertaining/interesting when I saw them upon release. Those are for sure the last ones I've seen.

 

I was definitely the prime demo for him in high school - teenager in the 90s/2000s, obsessed with pop culture, angry for no reason.

But all that stuff kind of wore off as it tends to do and being obsessed with comic books and “Star Wars” isn’t as groundbreaking or novel as it was when “Clerks” came out. Still, my friend and I will hatewatch anything new he comes out with because he’s such a bad writer and director and is a total capitalism king.

That said, I still like him as a personality and give him kudos for being transparent about mental health and body issues. It kind of pissed me off that Chris kept going back to his looks. Like, there’s so many things to make fun of about him that’s not that. Also, the guest felt non-existent in this ep.

I feel like the guests kinda make or break the ep. When they have people they have a good rapport with, it rules. I think some of the twitter personalities they've had on are weak.

 

They are friends with Rob. He's just quiet.

 

Haha I didn't get to this week's yet, I'm a couple behind. I'd take quiet over trying to shoehorn in jokes any day. Let the guys cook

For me, Bryan/Tom/Chris is the best. Or guest spots from Jesse/Mike/Stefan. But yeah guests have been hit or miss for me.

 

Tom is the best. He’s hilarious as is, but his accent just makes it that much funnier.

 

Chris saying that Deep Purple only has one song turned me into livid Nolan for a second

 

I’m not a Kevin Smith guy but I think I’ve seen all of his movies. The recent stuff aren’t even stories it’s just all references to his early work. They’re terrible. But I still kind of root for him. He’s lame and cringey but does seem like a good guy
