Agreed. Minus wrestling guys, Chris recently has been a little bit extra when it comes to interrupting guests and needling Bryan (like, he was surprised when Bryan answered questions about his mom when it was clear the answers were going to be pretty dark). Gavin kind of turning the tables was needed.
Chris can be really, really funny, but he also starts to wear thin when you realize he has like...one schtick, lol. Gavin basically being Chris Jr. and just saying lines from Big Lewbowski started to get pretty tired.
Though I love Chris, the criticism is not unwarranted. I thought Gavin was perfect on this episode though.
Yeah, he’s an obviously important counterpart to Bryan. The guy that’s about being ethical and financially smart vs. The guy willing to sell his soul to protein cereal and spends a ton of money useless stuff. A real-life odd couple.
I like the Patreon content more than main feed Guys (which I still like a ton). There’s a balance in the main podcast where they mostly fall on the right side, making fun of weirdos who have defined themselves by one thing and become insane because of it, but sometimes the podcast can teeter towards an incurious “look at these people who are really into something that we don’t like/understand at all” vibe and imo they sometimes can tilt it towards that more unpleasant to listen to side of that. I skipped Book Guys entirely because just imagining them talking about books sounded like a nightmare to me personally lol. But I love the streams and Guys+ and Shocktober, genuinely they’re two of the funniest guys.
Shocktober remains the best. I also miss Bryan doing his weird dumb side series like “Jeff Dunham? Done him!” and the Dane Cook series.
Definitely agree about the Patreon and the stream being better than (the mostly great) podcast. They only take a cursory look at the guys on the main feed but the real freaks come out and we get to dive deeper into them on the stream/Guys+
Im still a newish fan of the pod. How worth it is the patreon? Also “Fart Guys” has to be my most anticipated podcast episode of the year at this point
Loss prevention guys are the worst in general and then they make videos of them talking about tackling people for stealing a dvd
The guy saying he does it all for his store manager was one of the more pathetic videos they've played which is saying a lot after watching dozens of hours of Opie and Bubba.
The cable guy showing Bryan a picture of him with Peter Steele and Bryan being like come upstairs and one upping him with the blanket lmao
The best thing about Blocked Party ending on their main feed is it got me into Your Kickstarter Sucks. DB and JF are so funny.
