I have been out of touch with the Hardcore Guy since I was a teenager going to see my friends shitty bands open for Kids Like Us at skatepark shows. Do they still wear camo shorts?

 

I feel like Star Trek guys would take way too long to explain and they probably wouldn’t understand the lore (I also don’t understand the lore.)

 

There are humanist lib post-scarcity democratic space explorers hundreds of years in the future who just want to do science and chill out with aliens. They come into conflict with samurai warrior coded weird head ridge guys, collectivist cyborgs, racist xenophobic elves, fascist lizardmen, libertarian goblins, and their own government's deep state. They also occasionally spend an entire episode around a conference table just debating the ethical implications of allowing a loney immortal alien god to commit suicide, or have a 60 minute episode where the crew just LARPs as characters in a Charles Dickens novel, or bond with an uncontacted alien race by sharing with them the story of the Epic of Gilgamesh or something.

Trek Lore isn't as complicated as it might appear. Most of TOS and TNG is just standalone liberal arts porn. DS9 which is the most serialized and lore heavy isnt that hard to follow once you get into it.

I grew up in Tampa Bay Bubba The Lovesponge country listening to that in the 90's, so I dunno if I had it better or worse than people who grew up listening to Mancow lol

The most controversial Bubba bit I remember was in the early 2000's he did a thing called "Roadkill Barbecue" they aired live audio of a boar getting castrated and slaughtered and PETA freaked the fuck out. He, his producers, and two call in fans actually went to trial on felony animal cruelty charges. They ended up getting acquitted on a a "well the state is ok with horse racing and that is animal cruelty too so..." defence.
