I'm extremely excited to hear that James Gunn will be returning for GOTG3! Surprisingly this is my favorite series out of the entire current MCU run so anything to keep the GOTG ship rights, is great news for me =D
Four post-credits scenes? Neat, but weird, lol. Wonder how that's structured. Wait, never mind, James Gunn said there are FIVE.
So how are all the post credit scenes going to work? Just one after the other? How much longer will I have to sit there? Haha
I'm hoping four of them are really mid-credit scenes, and then one actual after-credit scene... It's going to be really awkward if they're stacked at the end.
3-4 of them will probably be little gag bits mixed into the credits, as often happens in non-superhero films, especially since they've been said to mostly be fun, lighthearted scenes. The final one at the end will probably play into Infinity War (maybe even take place during it, like Ant-Man's did for Civil War), and/or there could be a tease for GOTG vol. 3. But, they won't be 5 major set-up clips.
Not plot spoilers but review spoilers Kinda bummed that a good chunk of reviews just say this is pretty good but doesnt touch the first. The wait until next thursday is still excruciating!
The problem with MCU sequels right now is that they are almost all pure filler. When are we ever going to get anywhere with things? The reviews seem to back this notion.
The problem with the MCU is the idea that everything needs to build to something. A movie that leans more towards a stand alone narrative shouldn't be considered filler
Wasn't into the first as much as others, but I thought this was really, really, really good. Edit: context. Already showing here
Warning: This analogy might fail and come off as stupid. American Pie movies. We follow the journey of these friends through their lives, but everything in the end of each movie is wrapped up nice and pretty. They all lose their virginities, they have the epic party, they have a nice wedding, the conflict introduced throughout the film is resolved (tbh I don't remember the bulk of American Reunion). There's no constant winks/nods to what's going to happen next. Events in the film get referenced, but they're all isolated incidents. American Pie 1 doesn't have a plot line about how they're anticipating their college summer party. American Pie 2 isn't about how Jim and Michelle are preparing to get married. It's that Marvel movies, while having a plot, tend to be primarily about building towards whatever big thing is happening in the next Avengers movie.
Interesting comparison, but I think that most MCU sequels don't do enough to move things forward. I mean The Avengers haven't even had a descent villain yet. It's like this perpetually dangled carrot.
Not spoilers as well just responding to your tag I feel like the script is just better overall. I enjoyed the banter more. And it really just goes in on the comedy but never lost the heart of the first. There's def a chance you'll like the first one more, but I can say confidently I found this to be way better. I felt there were dragging moments in gotg, dont think it happened here. I even like the soundtrack more haha.
