    Caitlin Dewey:

In fairness, no one really knows if Anderson would navigate our current social media environment with more or less grace than the current bozos.1 He left the game in 2009, when social media was still widely and unreservedly viewed as a force for social good. His scandals were of the comical2 and momentary sort; his politics — if he has them3 — have always seemed wan and vague.

But the fact that Anderson did retire from tech, and at the tender age of 38, testifies to a political philosophy and a set of values that feel almost radical today. People like Musk and Zuckerberg are hell-bent on amassing unprecedented, indecent stores of power and wealth. Anderson isn’t exactly curing cancer, by comparison … but he’s at least bucked the gospel of infinite extraction.

I'm in love with the ordinary

Thanks for posting this, such a great read! I miss Myspace, from time to time I'll think about it and get nostalgic. I don't think I'll ever get nostalgic over Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. Myspace was just better, the personal pages and customization, the music angle, the top 8. I found so many likewise people through MS, not only that but it really helped shape my music tastes, and kinda parts of my life, to this day. If Tom started and ran another social website, I'd join it sight unseen, I doubt it'd be the same in this current day and age though.

I'm pretty much over all social media, I find it boring these days, it's just hours of endless fucking scrolling about honestly stupid shit. If it's not that, it's fake staged bullshit posted for reactions. Makes me honestly want to kill myself, I've lost hope in this world and the people. I've cut back on it big time and I barely open any of them anymore. I miss the days of forums like this one, where you can find people similar to you who like the shit you like. Not pages upon pages of endless fucking arguing over everything. Even on the bands I follow, everything in the comments just seems so political these days and I'm so beyond over it! Really feels like there's not much to be hopeful for anymore.

Damn, just realized I've posted a big ass rant, guess I'll end it here. Sorry.

TL;DR = Myspace was great, I miss it, the world has gone to shit ever since!

    Might be Spider-Man...

Imagine someone with that kind of wealth and power, not becoming a fascist hellbent on taking over the world ala' a Saturday morning cartoon supervillain.

    this is all there is

It will never make sense to me how sterile-ass Facebook won out over how damn cool Myspace was.

It wasn't perfect, and I know facilitated a lot of bad things too, but overall it was a huge piece of when the internet was still a fun place to explore, connect, discover, and learn. You can't go home again.
