Yeah it's brilliant. I didn't think they could release a more epic closer than Sun In Your Eyes, but man Sky Took Hold is perfect. The interplay between their vocals on this album is top tier.
Ive been wearing this out the last couple weeks. Here again to say its phenomenal. At the moment Aquarian kinda feels not good enough to sit alongside the rest of the tracks. Kinda sounds like it could have been a Shields B side woth those same “shock” chords that the fantastic Sleeping Ute had. I wonder if those who are less into the album felt a lull with that song and potentially Mourning Sound or Losing All Sense, though I personally like those tracks. The latters bridge elevates it. Did anyone talk about how absolutely gorgeous Systole is yet?
Yessss I love Systole, so cool to see Chris shine on that one. Mourning Sound I didn't like much as a single, but it fix well in the album and Losing All Sense has a great chorus. Daniel's background vocals mixed with Ed's are so good there.
Pretty sure there's a post from me in this thread talking about how much I loved Systole. This album continues to grow on me, and I loved it after my first spin. It loses A TINY BIT of steam in the 2nd half but all their albums kinda do. They're still better and more consistent than 95% of bands in the indie scene.
They’re unreal live. Each member is pretty much a master at their own instrument but they way they come together is just *chef hand kiss*
I’m very excited. I always seem to miss their shows for one reason or another so I had to lock this down early
You seen em before? Last time I was gonna see them my girlfriend at the time wanted to see Bad Books instead so we did that. Which actually ended up being a really great show but I would have preferred Grizzly Bear. So this’ll be my first time.
No doubt. I would have preferred Grizzly Bear too, but glad you're finally gonna go see them! I saw them once back in 2013 and it was absolutely amazing. It's been five years now, so I'm definitely desperate to see them again haha.
I saw them right when they released Painted Ruins. They did a couple small warmup shows in LA right before going on tour. They are incredible live. Every member is just a master at their instrument its a joy to watch.
Oh, I bet. I’m hoping they do Ready Able cause the ending of that song slays too. And, it’s a long shot, but if they closed with Sun In Your Eyes that would be tiiiiight
I can’t remember everything they played off the top of my head but they pretty much played everything I wanted them to except for I Live With You. They closed with Three Rings and Sun In Your Eyes which was an awesome 1-2 punch. I always knew Dan was an incredible guitar player but seeing it live is truly something else. However, I never realized how much of a fucking beast Chris was on the drums. He does some absolutely insane shit live. However, and this is a big however, this was probably the worst concert going experience I’ve ever had. The sound was incredible and GB were on point but oh my god.....the people next to me... It’s assigned bench seating and to my left was a group of like 4 or 5 women aged 40+ who were total winos and clearly did not give a single fuck about the band and talked loudly the ENTIRE TIME. And I mean the entire time. They were so drunk and annoying and it honestly gave me anxiety because I was just sitting there waiting for the next time they’d open their mouths. And when the band would get loud they would just talk louder. I ended up moving to the walkway for the last song cause at that point the guards don’t care but the show was basically ruined.
Chris is the best, but dang it man. Outta all the shows it had to be this one, so sorry you had to go through that garbage. :(
Yeah, it was super disheartening. But there will always be more shows. They were seriously mind blowing though. Amazing setlist too. I can’t remember it exactly but it was something like Southern Point Losing All Sense Fine For Now Sleeping Ute While You Wait For The Others Four Cypresses Ready Able Yet Again Foreground Two Weeks On a Neck, On a Split Three Rings Sun In Your Eyes Save for the first couple and last couple songs, that wasn't the order and I think there may have been another song in there but I'm not sure. That's the general idea though
Caught their show on the Spoon tour...can confirm they are awesome live....I did have an allergy attack towards the end of the set and had a hard time keeping my eyes open but it was amazing nonetheless !
