tbh music crit is way too soft lately and this hit job was needed

 

on an incredibly easy target

 

well duh that’s why it’s dumb anyone is worked up about it, not like this will actively harm them in any way

 

if anything this falls under no publicity is bad publicity and a bunch of people are gonna check them out just to spite pitchfork

 

don't really have any opinions on this band or the review other than the line "Greta Van Fleet sound like they did weed exactly once, called the cops, and tried to record a Led Zeppelin album before they arrested themselves." is funny

 

I just read the review again, and I found it even more funny.

Tbh the name Greta Van Fleet sounds like something created by an algorithm.

 

Greta Van Fleet sounds like a song writer that makes music in the vein of Joanna Newsom

 

I'm just in this thread because of that great review and I would never purposefully listen to this bad band

 

Speaking of Fleet.

Can someone push a band that sounds like Fleetwood Mac instead?

I'd love that.

That would just get us the same elitist condescending takes we already have about GVF, but would multiply them by rampant sexism.

I'm glad that thinking something is a blatant rip-off and sounds bad is now considered "elitist"

 

All these bands are pop as much as they are rock. Rock music in 2018 sounds nothing like Greta Von Shite or whatever.

 

I think that should've said "radio rock".

 

To me those are all pop bands and that's largely down to emphasis. The idea that people would consider those bands as representative of rock music is quite alarming to me.

Also, while I've never gone back to it (and maybe that says something), I did actually quite like the EP that GVF released late last year.
