I don’t know if I’ve heard a modern band capture that late 60s/70s sound better than these guys do. Very impressive
I just heard of these guys. This is a fun release, but idk... It almost makes me a little sad that a band this derivative is getting so big while a ton of great bands making original/creative new styles of rock music don't get even a small fraction of the audience they've gotten in less than a year. It's not this band's fault of course, and they're doing this sound well... But I think it speaks to how many rock fans just want to look backwards nowadays (not speaking about the people on this site obviously, but if you look at the broader rock audience it's definitely true to an extent). That to me is the sign of a declining genre, which I hope won't remain the case long-term.
Yeah, I actively hate this. Every couple years some band like this comes along and a bunch of middle-aged white men praise the heavens because finally some kids in their early twenties (who all play their own instruments—wow!) are making "real" rock and roll again, just like the kind that's been getting recycled through the classic rock radio circulatory system for the past 45 years. More power to 'em, I guess, but the appeal is lost on me.
Personally, I think there’s room for new bands doing cool things and nostalgic sounding bands re-creating old sounds, and both are good for different reasons.
Agreed. I think it's more for me just HOW much more popular this band is than so many more original rock bands out there right now. I know I'm probably reading too much into it but it does make me feel like nostalgia is dominating rock right now.
I fucking love this record. Opener and closer are sooo good. It is a nostalgia bomb but I think these guys are talented enough to do a lot more as they grow.
@teebs41 since I’m pretty sure you already know about animal flag. I think this is my black foxxes of this year. Have listened to this thing prob 50 times this month. Ha
truly cannot imagine ever wanting to listen to this band when song remains the same is still available. overheard them at a festival today after thrice and god damn it was excruciating
At a festival I overheard people talking about this band and they kept saying “they’re so amazing, they sound exactly like Led Zeppelin” but idk to me sounding exactly like another band is a bad thing
Saw something on Twitter about these guys being compared to Zeppelin so I decided to check them out. This EP rips. Cool that they're a Michigan band too. The full length is definitely now on my most-anticipated for the rest of the year.
Dorothy. My dad saw them in Portland last Friday, and he really liked them. Female vocalist with a bluesy rock sound not too far from GVF’s.
Gotta be honest. They blew me away. I know they are copping their influences hard...but they are really talented. Wow
Anthem of The Peaceful Army is great. Feels a lot more hashed out than the EPs, not just hero worship. Incredibly talented band.
The hate for this band everywhere is very strange to me. Especially since the majority of it is "I like Led Zeppelin, this is like Led Zeppelin, therefore, I hate it."
