Saw them play last summer, and Country Girl was the highlight for me. It exceeded my expectations here with the studio version, let's fucking goooooo.
Need more bands that scratch this exact itch (rural doom-y alt-rock with shoegaze elements) and failing outside of like, Hum lol
this just landed in my inbox and I can't wait to dive in with headphones when I get a good 45 minutes to do so
"Die in Love" is huge and heavy and gazey and the titular chorus lyrics are so simple but so effective. "The Same But Different Now" still sounds like a heavy DIIV song to me (complimentary), something kind of different for them. "Country Girl" is still the best song I've ever heard in my life, lmao.
"Emptiness Everywhere" is beautiful, about to get me misty on the bus lol. Kind of sounds like their version of a jangle-pop song.
"Small Town Cemetery" is lovely, always enjoy their acoustic songs. Logan sounds great. Album is as death-centric as anything they've done, but the vibes are definitely brighter in a really nice way. Also cool hearing "Motherfucker" finally after reading so many comments about them playing it live, good guitars on that one. Harper's part is gorgeous.
Folks, they did it again :) great fucking record. "Love Me When You Leave" is a fucking gorgeous closer, Harper has not only grown so much vocally but the lyrics are beautiful and there's a callback to an earlier song on the album that made me smile. This band doesn't usually have a penchant for acoustic ballads like this, but I would take a whole album of them.
What's with the piss poor marketing for this album? Deathwish is REALLY dropping the ball. "Motherfucker" was just released as a single and I wouldn't have known about it at all if I wasn't plugged into the band's subreddit. Anyways, the song's great recorded as expected. It was definitely an adjustment hearing it officially recorded compared to the live videos I've been watching. There are a lot of weird layers that I was not expecting.
Motherfucker is great, I can’t get over how good Harper sounds now. I need to cool it on these singles so I don’t over play a third of the album but they’re all too good. Country Girl is still my favorite.
