It's funny, when FOAM came out and Hella Mega was announced, I was hoping they wouldn't play anything from it. Now, over a year later, I've grown to like FOAM way more than when it came out and wouldn't have minded a song or two at all. But, I'm not upset about it, either.
I do love the title track. The rest of the album could be thrown away. But that title track would be really fun live.
Given they're touring on the album it is at the very least odd to not have anything from it on the setlist. I would have expected at least the title track, or Oh Yeah since that got airplay. Especially given FOAM's songs are pretty short. I wonder if the COVID delay played a part in that decision.
My guess: the setlist if this tour had gone ahead last year would have had 4-6 FOAM songs. Now that we're so far from the album, and taking into consideration that people largely fucking hate that album, there's not really any reason for them to play a lot of it unless they really, really want to.
That Kiss cover is going over infinitely better than literally any track from FOAM would. Mostly because it's a song that everybody knows. I do think it's kinda odd that they've been playing "Polyanna" than something off that album, but I think that's a statement in and of itself that the band is just ready to move on from that album.
It's a rock show and they're a crowd-pleasing band. A KISS cover will get people way more hyped than a FOAM song.
Would have loved to get the title track and maybe Graffitia but I can understand why they're not doing it Maybe if they do their own tour afterwards
I haven't looked at Weezer or FOB's setlists, but I would imagine this is a greatest hits tour for all 3 bands. *took a look* yup.
If I went to this tour I would definitely be pissed if Weezer didn't do at least 3-4 from Van Weezer.
My take on the Green Day discography (indulge me, these are fun to do): 1039/SMOOTHED OUT SLAPPY HOURS - Amazing how fully formed a lot of these songs were given they were so young. Compared to, like, Blink 182's "Chesire Cat" this is a solid debut. KERPLUNK - Definitely perfected the previous album's formula, with sharper songwriting. Production is a bit tinny given it's on an indie label in the early 90's. DOOKIE - Still a stone-cold classic, undeniable 14 songs of pop-punk greatness INSOMNIAC - Stands up well against Dookie. Almost can be considered Dookie in minor chord. Whole thing is relentlessly grim though but wish they'd revisit more songs from this live NIMROD - Transitional record where the band tries out a bunch of styles. You can definitely hear the seeds of Warning in songs like "Walking Alone" and even AI with "Haushinka" WARNING - This album constantly gets described us under-rated so now I think it's actually properly rated. At the time, people were kind of over Green Day and the jangle-pop sound was in stark contrast to Blink 182 mania and the pop-punk of New Found Glory, Good CHarlotte, etc. Still a great record but I don't think it's as amazing as people claim AMERICAN IDIOT - Never seen such a roaring comeback like this. A phenomenal record that's a major artistic achievement. Deserves all the praise 21ST CENTURY BREAKDOWN - Builds on AI and incorporates and even grander sound. Some people may think it runs too lon but I still think there is some of the best stuff the band has ever done. UNO - Neat little power-pop record but drags a bit towards the end. DOS - Neat little garage-rock album but has a few flat out duds (Wild One, Nightlight) along with some bangers TRE - Think there was a bit of exhaustion at the time and these probably would have landed better if presented as a b-sides comp but some good stuff on here REVOLUTION RADIO - Was commonly called a "return to form" but really it's just a well-rounded summary of the band now being a professional rock band FATHER OF ALL - Some fun catchy bangers on here though I think this would have landed better under the Foxboro Hot Tubs moniker
I remember a lot of people here didn't really care for the lyrics to Pollyanna when it came out but I've come to actually really like them
I've actually always thought that BJ was one of the few guitar-playing frontmen who looks just as cool onstage without it lol There's only like three songs in their whole discography that he does that for though
He's a showman. For me though, I imagine him playing guitar in songs when I listen to them so it always throws me off seeing him perform it not playing guitar haha.
