To me this sounds like it could easily have been on an album with Love Is For Losers and a couple of the other longshot songs
Really fun song! I'm also a big FOAM apologist but this definitely reminds me more of Longshot/RR era so it's pretty refreshing. I wonder if it'll be connected to anything? Like an EP or something before the tour (which I'm SO fucking happy is going on this summer)
It would be better than anything on FOAM if Father of All, Fire Ready Aim, Meet Me on the Roof, Stab You in the Heart, Sugar Youth, Take the Money and Crawl, and Graffitia weren't on the album, sure.
Awesome power-pop jam. Do we think it's a one-off single? I can't find any other comments about it other than it coinciding with the update on Hella Mega.
New song is good! I was expecting offensively terrible lyrics after seeing comments here, so maybe i went into this with really low expectations. I thought lyrics were fine, but I've also been embracing positive, even sappy, lyrics more than usual after 2020 and all...
I feel like Pollyanna has the hot dog artwork since they're about to play baseball stadiums. Song is fine. Toothless, catchy pop.
Can't take credit for this as I got it from YouTube but I did search the web to ensure it is true: Pollyanna is a 1913 novel by American author Eleanor H. Porter, considered a classic of children's literature. Due to the book's fame, "Pollyanna" has become a synonym for someone who, like the title character, has an unfailingly optimistic outlook. A stereotype towards the positive is often described as the Pollyanna principle. Despite the current common use of the term to mean "an excessively cheerful or optimistic person", Pollyanna and her father played the "glad game" as a method of facing the real difficulties that affects the life itself.
Didn’t even realize they dropped a new song. Hopefully this signals them putting FOAM down in a ditch where it belongs lol. I’ll take a whole album like this gladly, awkward lyrics and all.
I just can't imagine not liking at least 1/3 of the songs on FOAM. Like, I really don't understand why people dislike it so much, and so passionately.
I dislike it cause I compare it to Billie Joe's good songwriting instead of comparing it to the trilogy
To me, it’s their most interesting album since American Idiot, haha. But I can see why that might be an unpopular opinion. But I stand by it! Haha
Some of the songs on FOAM manage to be catchy and are just short enough to be fun before that wears out but they still feel empty. There's zero urgency or emotional weight behind them. There's nothing overtly creative or interesting about them. At its best, it feels like the same power-pop/garge-rock Billie pulled off expertly with that Longshot album... With bad lyrics and songs that aren't anywhere near as catchy as what went on that record. I can forgive a song that feels like a failed experiment when the band is stretching or the lyrics are emotive. I'm all for a standard four-chord pop-punk song if the lyrics are interesting or it feels like the singer really has something to get off their chest... But there's none of that on FOAM. Maybe if the record had been delivered with a different context, I might feel different. Something like: "We were just fucking around having fun and this is what happened." But they presented it as "We want to save rock and roll and really push ourselves forward and this is what we came up with! This is like, the real raw shit that everybody has been missing!" So yeah. Just no.
All valid points. And yeah, I didn’t really see any of their “save rock and roll” promo other than that stupid billboard so I wasn’t really turned off by any of that. To me, the album sounds like they’re just having fun and not coming in to make another paint-by-numbers Green DayTM album. That’s why it’s so refreshing and fun to me. I hope eventually people catch on to FOAM and appreciate it for just being a fun and different one-off kind of album in their catalog.
