If I was ever in that scenario I wouldn't even be able to speak because I'd be laughing so hard, haha. (But if I was able to gain my composure and answer, I'd say FOAM is my personal fav, but if the armed gunman says they just want to hear paint-by-numbers/safe Green Day, then I'd say 20CB, I guess.)
Holy shit, unexpected new Green Day song releasing on my birthday!! I really hope this is connected to an EP or something, or even an album but that may be too much to ask right now lol
I embraced the change in style of FOAM with open arms as we got closer to it's release. The "this doesn't sound like GD tho" complaints from others made no difference to me. My issue with FOAM isn't the sound. I just don't think it's a strong collection of songs. They can keep FOAM vibes all they want. I just want that feeling nearly every GD album has given me when I first hear it, and FOAM didn't do it for me - not even one song. It's easy to knock the trilogy for this as well and it's a deserved criticism overall, but there were at least moments throughout each of those three albums that stuck a chord with me. I'll keep trying with FOAM, but that's where I still land with it to this day - nothing about it is memorable to me. I really envy your love/dedication of it. Lol
Yeah, I mean, music is always hit or miss with everybody, even if it's a band you love. The only songs on FOAM I don't love are Oh Yeah, I Was A Teenage Teenager, and Junkies On A High. I legitimately really like/love the rest. It's such a fun album from them, and I am happy they are trying something different. They've had such a long career and most of their stuff doesn't stray too far away from their typical sound, so this was a welcome breath of fresh air.
This is the same boat I’m in. I think I would love an album with the FOAM sound but more typical Green Day hooks. As it stands it may be my least favorite Green Day album besides 1039, but none of that is the production. In some ways it’s actually the exact opposite problem I have with the trilogy, which I’ve always thought had some great songs (Stray Heart, X Kid, Brutal Love, Lazy Bones, etc) but suffers a lot from that sterile semi-clean guitar tone and weird slapback vocals.
Yeah whatever. They’re old. They had a longer run of quality material than most. I’ll always check out whatever they put out but I never expect much anymore
Yeah that is fine. Sounds like a filler song on an album to me. Don’t hate it, but don’t love it. Sounds a lot like a “we just wanted to get into the studio and record something together again” type song
I know they did The Network, but even that was probably recorded a decent amount of time before it was released
