yeah, dumb is definitely the best word for it haha. VERY dumb stuff, and I can't quite enjoy something this dumb, but I'm glad @clockwise can find joy in it lol
Well that's an accomplishment by itself! I'm sure it surprises absolutely no one here how much I enjoy this album.
The repurposing of lyrics and the hook before the chorus from Kill the DJ was a fun surprise. Overall I liked it! Some songs could have been left off, but the absurdity and energy made it all work pretty well!
It's obviously too long and has some filler but I think that's kind of the point, I think it's supposed to just be a purposely indulgent collection of goofy experimental shit. There's some legit great songs on here too like Theory of Reality, Fentanyl, Ivankkka is a Nazi, Degenerate, Tarantula, Cancer is the New Black, Jerry Falwell's Pool Party and Art of the Deal with the Devil, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the Billie songs were some of the ones that were cut from FOAM. Either way this is a really interesting entry into the Green Day canon I would really love for them to bring some of this experimentation in a more serious form over to Green Day, I wish they didn't keep this kind of stuff to their side projects
I knew I was forgetting to mention something in this post, I definitely think there's too much Tre on here and not nearly enough Mike. He was such a huge part of the first album, he sang lead just as much if not slightly more than Billie and his voice is perfect for this sound but I think including too many Tre joke songs over him is my biggest complaint with the album
I've decided that Cancer is the New Black, Jerry Falwell's Pool Party, Threat Level Midnight, Degenerate and Art of the Deal are cut FOAM songs (the latter is actually confirmed in an interview from when the album came out). I put those five songs among the tracklist of FOAM (I can post my tracklisting if anyone cares) and they fit right in, and even boost the quality. Even with five extra songs it's still only 41 minutes too which is cool
Finally got around to listening to the new Network album. It's either hit or miss for me, but there are a decent amount of fun and cool songs. Some stuff on here reminds me of The Bravery some. Again, perfect timing for a new The Network album. Fucking 2020.
You are correct. Just added some songs onto a FOAM playlist and it beefs it up a bit more. Sounds so indie garage rock and I don’t hate it haha.
Those two could just be dropped right into the tracklist with no changes and be fine, the other ones I said sound like they were "Network-fied" a little bit but I still think they probably were
Yeah, Threat Level Midnight and Cancer could definitely have been re-tooled for this album, Threat Level Midnight especially. I just don't see them having a weird, deranged version of Kill The DJ on one of their studio albums haha.
