Yes, more Viva La Gloria? (Little Girl) love! I was going to choose East Jesus Nowhere, too. 21st CB is one of my top GD albums, so I tried to choose my best of that album for my Top 10, much like you did trying to create a good balance.
Mine is in no order, but not very varied. You can tell which albums I like the most lol. -She -Burnout -Hitchin' a Ride -Redundant -Jesus of Suburbia -Give Me Novocaine -Letterbomb -Restless Heart Syndrome -Somewhere Now -Still Breathing
1. Oh Love 2. Carpe Diem 3. Nightlife 4. Last Cobra 5. Loss of Control 6. Trouble Maker 7. Amy 8. Make out Party 9. Drama Queen 10. Fuck Time Definitive
That’s a bad list even if it’s only the top ten from the trilogy. With that being said though, I’ll try my top ten trilogy songs. Stay the Night Fell for You Oh Love Stray Heart Ashley Brutal Love Missing You 8th Ave. Serenade X-Kid Dirty Rotten Bastards To me that’s a very solid group of songs. They’re not career highlights, but if you made an album out of those songs I think it’s roughly on par with their discography.
Since I just heard these yesterday, I will chime in for no real reason and say I hate these songs with a passion.
I’m actually a little surprised. Obviously I know you hate the trilogy in the first place, but X-Kid and Bastards seemed to be among the most popular songs from the albums. To me, X-Kid isn’t far from fitting on Nimrod.
I definitely don't hate the trilogy. It's grown on me over time, too. Though Dos is still mostly a disaster. I've got a single-disc playlist of it that I actually dig a lot. As far as all-time Green Day top 10 goes, I'd probably say: Whatsername Letterbomb When I Come Around Holiday Basket Case Deadbeat Holiday Still Breathing Forever Now 21st Century Breakdown Redundant Not really in order, though "Whatsername" is definitely my favorite Green Day song.
Top 10: JAR Homecoming Forever Now Deadbeat Holiday Waiting Armatage Shanks Stuart and the Ave Going to Pasalacqua 2000 Light Years Away Coming Clean Gonna go listen to Warning now. Forgot how much I love it.
Don't know if I could ever come up with a top ten, literally every single Green Day song means so much to me.
No order: Welcome To Paradise J.A.R. (Jason Andrew Relva) Brain Stew Bang Bang American Idiot Jesus of Suburbia When I Come Around 2000 Light Years Away Hitchin’ A Ride Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) Bakers Dozen: Waiting Desensitized Castaway
In no order: Stuart and the Ave. Armatage Shanks Coming Clean Brutal Love Before the Lobotomy 2,000 Light Years Away Redundant X-Kid Ordinary World 8th Avenue Serenade
What are everyone's favorites on Love is for Losers? I think Happiness, The Last Time and Turn Me Loose are mine atm.
“Turn Me Loose” and “Chasing a Ghost” are so so so good. Hope to get tickets tomorrow for their Seattle show next month. Really enjoying the album!
I actually listened to the trilogy for the very first time a couple of weeks ago. I don't normally ask this about albums - even ones I don't like - but I found myself wondering why the band felt the need to record most of it. The only highlights were only highlights because they were bad, and the rest was just...there.
There's actually plenty of people out there who like it, so I guess they recorded it because they knew those people were out there? And they liked it themselves?
The worst part of it for me is that it's lightweight. Most of the songs don't feel like they're about anything. They don't have anything to say. To have that, paired with the indulgence of a triple album, is...a problem. I think it would be thought of a lot more kindly if it had been a one-disc project.
It was just an extraordinary amount of mediocre music from such an influential band. If you're going to release that much music in one year, at least make it interesting.
Well they did think it was interesting, that's why they released it. Leading up to releasing Uno the band were very proudly showcasing the songs live and promoting the hell out of it. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean it shouldn't have been recorded.
