The trilogy should've been one album. It would've been a solid album had it been condensed to the best of it. Insomniac is probably my favorite still, followed by AI
The issue with condensing it into one album is that everyone's favorites are different. I really think it was a case of too much too soon mixed with the myriad of personal problems the band was dealing with at the time that painted these records in such a negative light. Recently that narrative has been changing, which I'm happy with. I've always been a huge supporter of the albums. I think Uno and Tre especially contain some of the bands best work. And there are some bangers even on Dos.
Ya'll made me do this, it's not my fault!!! American Idiot Warning Insomniac Nimrod Dookie Revolution Radio 21st Century Breakdown Uno Tre Dos Kerplunk 39/Smooth
I’m most interested in what everyone’s favorite Green Day songs are. 39 Smooth isn’t great, yet Going to Pasalacqua is one of my favorite songs by this band.
I don't mind any of Green Day's musical styles, but my favorites would still have to be American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown.
People do have some different favorites from the Trilogy but it seems pretty easy to separate the bottom of the barrel out on those albums lol
I agree. Off of 1,039/Smoothed Out, "Going to Pasalacqua" and "Paper Lanterns" are staples when it comes to my Green Day listening.
That's insane to me. You'd be surprised, I've seen peoples favorite/least favorite songs vary across the board since the albums have come out. I think time is going to be kind to those records. American Idiot Kerplunk Rev Rad Uno Tre Insomniac Nimrod Warning Dookie Dos 39/smooth 21st Century Breakdown
I've tried the trilogy ... maybe two dozen times. I'll try it again later today. (I truly hate it and almost all of the songs. Maybe an EPs worth of stuff I like in that entire collection.)
Hey everyone’s entitled to their own opinions, mine is just that that song is absolutely repulsive and helped contribute (along with most of the rest of the trilogy) to my pretty much ceasing listening to the band for a good few years.
I don't mind the trilogy, I was a big fan when it came out although nowadays I've settled down on it. It's probably my second least listened to project from them aside from Smoothed Out. Dos is pretty easily the worst, and I think if you combined the best of Uno and Tre you would have an album that is pretty damn good. I don't like how glossy those songs sound sometimes though, and a lot of the parts seem lazy and repeated. This band could literally just fart in microphones and I'd probably like it though hahaha Echoing that Shenanigans love. Suffocate, Desensitized and Scumbag are some of my favorite GD tracks.
Then that's your truth and totally fine. I just think it's a super fun experiment from them (along with Nightlife on Dos)
Nightlife is so, so god damn bad. The fact that it exists makes me smile and I love throwing it on at parties. "Yo, what the hell is this song? This kinda sucks..." "Yeah! It's Green Day!" "What? Somebody take the aux from Mike..."
The problem with Uno Does and Tre is that Billie wanted to write simple, throwaway pop music (I'm pretty sure Cheap Trick got a shout-out in the build-up) and forgot that a lot of effort tends to go into making music which seems simple.
They're badly written songs. The choruses, specifically, are just awful. They say nothing and do that badly.
I think they're pretty catchy and I like listening to them, but I think "badly written" and "saying nothing" is a big problem plaguing all the trilogy tracks regardless of how I feel about those particular ones
