Warning (the album) is so so good. Can't believe I brushed it off in favor of almost every other GD album up until a few years ago.
Is Kerplunk underrated? It's easily in my top 3 favorites from them. I guess I have no clue how others feel about it.
Kerplunk doesn’t do a lot for me any more, but it’s cool to hear them figure out their sound. Rev Rad, though, is honestly a top 3 album from them for me- creeping toward the top.
Kerplunk is my second favorite behind American Idiot. I think it's actually an insane evolution from 39/smooth.
Warning and Nimrod usually flip between my second favorite after AI (which is my favorite album of all time) and Kerplunk is also super underrated. I honestly think Dookie is pretty overrated, outside of the singles it's not really that great to me besides Burnout, Having a Blast and Pulling Teeth. Even with the singles, I'm not a massive fan of Longview or When I Come Around, although it's possible it's due to overexposure (though I still love Basket Case, Welcome to Paradise and She) Keep in mind Green Day is my favorite band though
39/Smooth to Kerplunk is crazy but I don't know if it's as crazy as Kerplunk to Dookie. It's really hard for me to try and view these albums remotely objectively though because this is the band the showed me what music was essentially, and also that music is something you can find solace and healing in. I am just so inextricably attached that everything I say is just fluff I guess. I am sorry but it's late and I'm kinda drunk and people are talking about Green Day so I can't help but gush. What do y'all think about Nimrod?
For real though Warning is my personal favorite (hence the avatar), but AI is a very close second. I also really like Insomniac. Nimrod and Insomniac go back and forth as my third favorite
Nimrod is amazing. It's them just throwing a bunch of random sounds into one album to see what works, and it literally all does (for me). There aren't a lot of albums like that I can think of. Easily my favorite by them that came out in the 90's and it's not even close
Insomniac is actually the most underrated Green Day album. That thing still rips. Personal favorite for me is probably Dookie. Insomniac, AI, Nimrod, Warning, and RevRad are all really great though. Always thought it was weird how they kind of took several years off between 21st Century Breakdown and RevRad where they literally did nothing and put out no new music. Strange for a band that had been so active to do something like that.
I don’t think the trilogy is that bad, but it’s pretty shocking to me that they could not be considered the bands best work IMO I don’t know if I would put a single song from those albums in a top 20 or so Green Day songs. Their catalog is truly that deep.
