I don’t mind a few songs on each of the trilogy albums. UNO! - Nuclear Family, Carpe Diem, Stay the Night, Rusty James TRE - Dirty Rotten Bastard, 99 Balloons, X Kid and Brutal Love DOS - Really bad. I think maybe Stray Heart, Lazy Bones, Stop and Ashley were okay.
To counteract my negativity and wash the stink out from that experience ... here's a fun new addition to the office shelves.
I maintain that the trilogy is not a bad project, just terribly meandering and directionless. It's like when bands tell you they wrote 40-50 songs for an album and whittled to the best 12, except Green Day didn't do that last part, they just said fuck it and gave up.

To be fair they had way more songs in contention for the trilogy than made it on there. Like double at least.
Uno is largely ok/inoffensive, but kind of boring. It’s all mid-tier album tracks and no clear singles or huge highlights. So some of the songs work better on a full trilogy compilation, but listening to the album front to back isn’t particularly inspiring. Dos has 3-4 songs I genuinely love, and is otherwise almost entirely hot trash. Definitely their worst album, and pretty close to unlistenable as an actual album listening experience. Pretty sure I gave that one a 4/10 back in the AbsolutePunk.net days. Tre, I really like. Feels like it takes more swings and has more fun, with a lot of really catchy power pop melodies. Still low on their discography ranking, but it’s the only one I ever go back to on its own. Still really like the single-disc compilation I made of these three albums.
Every time I try to listen to them again I tell myself I'll make a compilation to keep for the future, I've never been able to complete the task
I can't defend the trilogy very hard because I haven't listened to any of them in their original format since release, but I really enjoy the compilation I made of the three. I've mentioned it here before but I tried to sequence it like it was another rock opera, but most folks here probably wouldn't appreciate it since I used some of the tracks that get the most hate.
It really is so good. One of my favorite memories is getting to see it on Broadway when Billie Joe was playing St. Jimmy. Got to meet him and have him sign my playbill after the show!
If I wanna listen to Green Day I just simply listen to anything that's American Idiot and before. Saviors is worth a listen too. RevRad is technically solid but it's just never grabbed me much
I’m in a similar situation. AI, Insomniac and Dookie are just so good that I always end up just listening to them.
I really like Saviors, and Rev Rad. And have a soft spot for the not as good but still pretty good 21st. And Awesome as Fuck, BBC Sessions, and parts of the b-side/demos/live takes on the deluxes. I just skip FOAM and the Trilogy.
