Yeah the haters are loud on the trilogy, I think it's completely fine save 4-5 songs (out of 35 or whatever) that stink. It's not their best material, but I'm still glad it exists. This would be a minority opinion on these boards though
My only real complaint about the trilogy is that it feels like they set out to make another rock opera and stopped halfway. Like it's a project that went unfinished, because they decided to release everything instead of whittling down the tracklisting and sequencing it. I don't think any of the songs are bad, but many aren't memorable to me.
Absolutely insane take coming from the person that likes the single they put out today AND the Longshot LP.
Both are better than anything on those albums. You'd think you'd be happy people like their new music instead of just riling people up over and over again over their worst material. Especially since you've already declared the new album is going to sell more than 125k copies in the first week, basically tripling their last (flop) album. I'd be trying to keep fans on your side, but that's just me!
I feel like it's impossible to have a rational discussion about certain albums because the haters and the fans are both equally foaming at the mouth. No, that's not an intentional pun.
I also think both of these new songs are way better than anything on the trilogy/FOAM. That being said, aside from a few real stinkers, I think most of the trilogy is fine and inoffensive, but largely unmemorbale.
Really enjoying “Look Ma, No Brains!”, getting some Nimrod vibes. The first single kinda bored me already.
The only real difference being that the Longshot LP is good and the trilogy isn't. I'm sure you're right in that there is a good album in there somewhere but I never bothered to put a playlist together.
I put together my version of what I thought a single Trilogy album would be like if it had a narrative like the previous albums and I'm quite happy with it, but it also includes a few that people here absolutely hate, so... (shrugs)
I mean the trilogy for me just feels like autopilot. No urgency, no necessity of them existing. I know they're deep into their career, but they just seemed ultimately so phoned in that it destroys my enjoyment of them. I feel absolutely nothing listening to them, even if I don't think they're unlistenable.
