I'm not going to argue with you about whether a song is pleasant to listen to or not. It would waste both our time.
Supposedly there is the story that Green Day had completed an album that was stolen or destroyed or something and then they ended up writing American Idiot….I wonder if that would’ve been more in the direction of Warning ?
The trilogy isn’t as big of a heap of shit as people usually say it is. Yes, there are bad songs on it but there are great songs on it too. Love me some Nuclear Family, Let Yourself Go, Stray Heart, Brutal Love, Missing You and quite a few others. That being said, Nightlife and Fuck Time are among their worst lol. Billie Joe did sum it up quite well during an interview of the Rev Rad promo cycle, that the trilogy was them being prolific for prolific’s sake for songwriting and while a lot of the stuff is fun, it’s a lot of filler. Still think FOAM is their worst but at least it’s short.
I don’t hate most of the trilogy, but the overwhelming majority of it feels like b-sides or Green Day on autopilot to me. It doesn’t really have any character. People said similar things about RevRadio, but I think that record is mostly very good and way, way better than the trilogy. Agreed that foam is their worst by a large margin.
For me the trilogy is like 80% great but I know that's not a popular opinion Worst Green Day song is either Troublemaker or Nightlife though
Uno and Tre are fine. The majority if songs on it I would consider ’good’ and if released on their own I wouldn’t have an issue with. They would be low tier GD albums but wouldn’t get the FOAM hate from me. Outside of Stray Heart and Stop When The Red Lights Are On, Dos is just pure crap.
Fuck Time is awful haha - my friends and I will jokingly put it on and say we can’t trust anyone who knows the words to it other than “baby baby it’s FUCK time.”
I revisited Dos last night after the brief discussion in here and my god I can’t believe the album basically starts with Fuck Time
When I tried to sequence a single-album playlist for the trilogy, the Dos songs I kept were See You Tonight, Stop When the Red Lights Flash, Lazy Bones, and Stray Heart
I've posted the tracklist I used for condensed version of the trilogy here before, so I don't feel the need to do it again, but I think it's impressive that in my desire to have my version be both musically diverse and tell a somewhat intelligible story, I managed to include pretty much every track you guys hate.
The trilogy is fucking awesome and 50 years from now the general consensus will have shifted that way. If Cigarettes and Valentines was released, ya'll would have probably hated it as much as FOAM or the trilogy. I would have loved it of course, but from everything we've heard about it, it seems it was very much Green Day By Numbers. The actual song 'Cigarettes and Valentines' is worse than any song on the trilogy imo.
