Those 5 callout songs in the latter part of the comment are all my high points from this one. Still sounds like Green Day but spreading the color beyond the normal palate. This one fits in well with that between the power pop feel and the guitar solo. Just a fun song to hear live.
Been listening to this album and Revolution Radio a lot this week. Hadn’t really listened to either that much before (maybe once or twice when they were first released), was kinda surprised at how great they are, I pretty much checked out on new material from this band after the trilogy. Clearly I made a mistake!
3-chord song and it sounds fresh and catchy AF. Love these guys. Reading these new songs are not leftovers from the Saviors sessions, but a part of 5 songs recorded recently for the deluxe.
Making myself wait to listen to the remaining tracks before the actual release tonight. But man, I'm excited! The two they've dropped thus far have been really fun. I said this leading up to Saviors but it feels real good to be stoked on new Green Day music at this point in the band's career and my own life. The trilogy did a number on tempering my expectations and there's been little blips of greatness (25% of RevRad fits that category). (As an added bonus I'm also seeing the Smoking Popes and Off With Their Heads tonight so... Gonna have a very pop-punk evening over here! Haha.)
Yeah I am 2005-retro in that I still collect all my mp3's as hard files and arrange the tracklists based on release. Therefor, "Fever" is first after the proper album and then bonus tracks.
I think that's a FOAM leftover given it's the only track w/Butch Walker as the producer so maybe they felt it didn't fit the vibe?
fever is not great imo so i am okay without it lol hype for more tunes though, i missed the singles so im stoked to get em all fresh. this album bangs!
I have OCD with this sort of stuff so it’s going to drive me crazy it’s not on the deluxe and I don’t want to add it to the deluxe because it’s not on the official release. I realize I’m weird and have problems haha.
New songs are pleasant/nice but they all have that “power-pop/punk ditty” vibe, like they could rattle off 1,000 of these at this level of good, and I really love when Green Day stretch out and either get a little more aggressive or a little more melodic. Stay Young kinda steps outside of that a little but I don’t know if it is quite my speed still. All in all, these hit in a really narrow tight lane that is pretty easy and fun.
I love Green Day. They're the band that defined my musical taste and inspired me to write my own songs. But right now they just sound like a cover version of themselves, like every new track is a recycle of previous ideas. I guess I should just be happy to see them still alive and kicking this far in their career.
