I'd replace Bobby Sox but that's it. I don't know why but that song just doesn't stick with me as much as the rest of the record. And I fucking love this record
I like Bobby Sox, buts it’s not a favorite. Solidly in a enjoyable song category, but not a go to for me.
Like many of us have done, I got to the part of my discography run through where it was time for the trilogy. Uno definitely does have some good songs and is clearly the best of the three. Dos is mostly embarrassingly bad, nearly nothing worth keeping. Tre is just boring, lifeless and doesn't do anything. Not aggressively bad like Dos, but not good at all. Maybe 2 songs worth keeping. There's my trilogy breakdown that no one wanted
I don't know where else to post this, but Aloe Blacc just released a covers EP and I'm kinda blown away by it, completely changes these tracks up. Check out the When I Come Around cover:
I was just in the bathroom earlier this week mindlessly singing a really slow version of Coldplay’s Yellow that purposefully broke apart its natural cadence and the thought occurred to me “What if there was a game show where a super talented soul-ish live band played deconstructed covers of popular songs and contestants had to be the first to guess the song name?” This EP is like exactly what I’d need to do an interactive studio meeting pitch. Lol.
I really hate to say it, but I listened to FOAM for the first time in years and I think I like it now
It’s not offensively bad like some here make it seem, just normal bad to me. But not nearly as lifeless as the trilogy.
On the other hand, I'm currently listening to the second The Network album and it IS offensively bad all the way through
Honestly, it’s fine. The lyrics are…bad. But it sounds like they had a blast, and the production is great. The hate always felt hyperbolic to me.
Still feels like a pretty minor, tossed-off album to me. I don't go back to it much. But I'll defend a band's right to make minor, tossed-off albums.
It's certainly a minor album in their discography, not sure I would call it 'tossed-off' though. I feel like that implies they didn't put effort or care into it, and I believe they did!
FOAM could have been a fulfilling jam session in one of their garages and no one would slight them for it.
