Same. Love this band, and liked Dilemma and Look Ma. Made it through a few more tracks and it felt a bit throwaway, though I do appreciate the back to basics vibe. Waiting until the end of the working day to restart.
Listened to it once and I’m very happy with it. Not sure there’s a bad/skippable song on it. Really glad we have a really really good new Green Day album again.
Bobby Sox is such an earworm. Yeah, my favorite album of theirs easily since AI. American Idiot, not Artificial Intelligence.
AFTER REFRESHING COMPULSIVELY FOR 20 MINUTES I SCORED A TICKET TO THEIR ROUGH TRADE RECORDS SHOW TODAY. I AM BUZZING!
Strange Days Are Here to Stay might be their best song in twenty years and the run from that to the end is genuinely impressive.
Strange Days is the closest they’ve come in 20+ years to the days when they would rattle off great catchy, melodic rock songs with no genre-play or larger gimmicks by the dozen. Just a good, tight song that stands on its own two feet. It feels like the one on this record.
The last three songs kinda muddle together for me in the "meh" category. 4-10 is the sweet spot for me. I think this could be a super tight 12 song album, but don't mind having some extra ones in there.
Living in '20's is the kind of rocker I didn't think they had in them anymore. Reminds me of the energy I loved in that last Cold Years album.
1981 is just a kid playing Monkey Wrench wrong, and I fucking love that? Specifically beyond the chords and even being in the same key, the “so long for now” vocalization is a dead ringer for “fall in fall out.”
