Warning is to Green Day what Folie A Deux is to Fall Out Boy. Everyone claims to love it now but it was definitely somewhat divisive and/or shrugged off in its time. I really love it but I still prefer AI and Dookie. Sidenote, I still think "Walking Alone" off Nimrod should have been saved for Warning as it fits the vibe better.
I believe it. I'd be curious to go back and read whatever AP.net thread existed when FOD leaked to see what the response was.
Rumors in the AI/Dookie tour announcement post that the tour is selling quite poorly. (Which was my worry after Smashing Pumpkins was announced as support.) Might think about grabbing tickets if they drop prices a lot and just showing up super late.
I love American Idiot roughly twice as much as everything else in their discog. Not a slight against their other albums, but that's the quantum leap for me, and a super formative album in my life to boot.
Seems like the ticket prices are just way too high. I took a look at Detroit a few days ago, and floor seats were like $350. That's stupid!
Yeah, ballparks were ambitious for this. Even Hella Mega didn't go clean in every city (and, even the "sold out" days secondary tickets dropped to face).
At the time, at least in my little pre-teen world, Warning felt like the first misstep/beginning-of-a-decline Green Day record, quality and reception wise. It didn’t dominate MTV and modern rock radio the way the previous three records did and it was slower, more restrained, and less eclectic/varied than Nimrod. It felt like watching your favorite pop punk band become the middle aged version of themselves (sonically, as they were still very young). None of my friends were into Warning. In hindsight, it’s a very good album and retroactively the last solid album in the Green Day 1.0 run. But I agree with the notion that it’s been given a higher status and more positive grade as time goes by than what I remember the real time reception being.
Yeah that pretty much nailed what the consensus was at the time. This also came out during Blink 182 mania so it seemed a bit old-timey/adult at the time.
Yeah, I've been loosely monitoring ticket prices and they've seemed to skyrocket. Going to wait for day-before/day-of tickets. My friend's rooftop actually overlooks the stadium so I always have that as an option as well.
Insomniac Dookie AI Nimrod Warning Kerplunk 1039 I don't listen to much off the others, I do go back to Murder City pretty much any time I listen to them however. song fuckin rules. I am really like this one which is exciting!
Oof, yeah, anything good is still over 300 here too. Floor is over 350 in a soccer stadium and zero interest in the supporting band is rough.
An album leaning way into Goodnight, Corvette, Suzie could be my Warning follow-up I've always wanted.
Love Suzie, not 100% on Corvette yet. I agree with whoever said they have trouble with songs about rock and roll.

What they should've done: two-night arena residencies, one night AI, one night Dookie. Sell packages for both nights, or let people buy the night they want. (And obviously lowered ticket prices but that's my opinion of every concert that has happened since COVID)
That is wild. The gig in Scotland is £80. Some would argue the US tour package is better than Nothing But Thieves (it is) but I’d pay £80 for AI/Dookie and have no supports preferably. I paid £180 for a blink ticket (bloody cancelled too) and that was at my limit and only because they are my favourite band. I don’t think I’d pay more than £150 for any gig.. maybe even £100.. that’s expensive for back ache. £350 is wild. Also why I will sadly never see Springsteen.
I don't care at all about Smashing Pumpkins. Hope they drop off and Green Day brings out Alexisonfire for the Toronto date
