I loved 21CB to death, it's epic and full of great songs. Buuuuuuut it's one of my least favorite records in their discography, because the rest is just that good.
Looking at the math ... 4 out of 13 studio albums being absolute dogshit leads to 30% of their entire catalog being virtually unplayable. And those first two records I barely ever come back to. They do have 5 incredible albums though. Makes up for a lot. (And 21CB is way above those 4.)
I've made it through it a few times, but it sure wasn't enjoyable. And I wouldn't put a single song above anything from Dookie-AI, probably 21 if we're being honest. But this is well trodden territory. I think those albums and FOAM are absolute trash.
There's definitely trilogy songs that are are Green Day A-List: 99 Revolutions Stop When The Red Lights Flash Ashley Stay The Night Let Yourself Go Angel Blue Walk Away X-Kid Brutal Love Nuclear Family Makeout Party Wow That's Loud Dirty Rotten Bastards
I'm glad someone like them, but not a single one of those songs would be anywhere near my A-list. And quite a few of them I think are truly awful. "Makeout Party" may be one of the worst songs ever written.
I'm going to listen to the trilogy for the first time in years soon, definitely going to at least attempt to make a list of what I like. I know I actually love Oh Love, but I don't even remember any of the other songs at all
Because they said some albums were dogshit and I've only heard one album so I want to know which ones so I can avoid them! Also, they were the ones who said it, not me! I don't understand why this is so hard.
ALL OF THEM?!?! I don't have that much time. That's like watching all of One Piece but in musical equivalency.
If you liked 21CB, the most similar sounding albums would be American Idiot and Revolution Radio. But I'd highly encourage to make your way through their entire discography because it's excellent imo.
Thanks for the suggestions! I didn't grow up with Blink, Green Day or any of the other big ones at the time even though it was very much my era so I'm trying to play catch up.
