I'm wondering if these three songs they've released after the album plus the couple that made the Network album (Degenerate, Threat Level Midnight and Art of the Deal off the top of my head) were the seven songs that Billie mentioned got cut from FOAM. It would make a lot of sense
My only gripe with the song is that it reminds me a bit too much of Stray Heart, which in turn sounds like Mother Mary by Foxboro Hot Tubs. I understand that they are using a rhythm that's quite common, but idk, it feels like something they've done before.
New song is fine, I suppose - not bad but I don't think anything overly noteworthy. I still maintain that Green Day has it in them to release their best album yet, if they'd only let go of the need to be "youthful" - and I say that as someone who enjoys FOAM as just a quick, fun little album. Probably not articulating it well, but I feel like they're heading into Rolling Stones territory where, rather than continuing to push themselves as artists and address the realities of aging, and having families, and the changing world, they're starting to rest on their laurels a bit with simple, albeit occasionally catchy, songs that really have no teeth or emotional resonance. I was really amped when I initially heard Butch was working with them because I do love Butch's solo work, as well as his work with Brian Fallon. I was hoping that we'd get a real honest, Americana-esque album from the band. While I didn't hate FOAM, for me it just continued the trend from the Trilogy and Revolution Radio of a band trying way to hard to fight the need to adapt a bit.
“Warning” really felt like them embracing getting older and maturing. I wish/hope they return to that at some point.
100% agree with this. I adore Warning, and it's probably my favorite Green Day album aside from American Idiot. The song writing, the instrumentation ... all really great stuff in my opinion. I like the early stuff, but I can honestly only take so many 3-4 power chord, heavy distorted, quick tempo songs in a row so the Nimrod/Warning era really hits for me. American Idiot is pretty close to perfect in my opinion and 21st... is like sooo close to getting it right but shows the hints of excess they'd fully realize with the Trilogy. I have a ton of respect for this band, and they undoubtedly have a ridiculous amount of life experience to reflect on that would be really interesting to incorporate in a new album. It was great hearing the "true to the moment" reflections in Dookie, Insomniac and onward but after the success of American Idiot, I think they've lost that aspect in their songs to a degree.
Its not mind blowing to say this could be on FOAM. Or Tre. I think it's easily more at home on the latter. This song is pretty decent and I dig it, after several listens. Pollyanna is much, much, much better though. I want more of that
Green day is playing shaky knees in Atlanta and some fun baseball festivals in Florida. Keep your eyes peeled. Looks like Green Day is playing the festival circuit next year
That Green Day / 311 / Incubus / Jimmy Eat World ticket at Innings festival in Tampa is so absurdly up my alley I can hardly handle it lol. I will absolutely be there.
Wonder if there's gonna be a solo American tour next year before or after the European Hella Mega tour
Very clearly doing a festival loop. They've been announced for 2 festivals already. I 100% expect them to be at a few more.
