There is a tendency to say that Saving Private Ryan peaks with D-Day and never recovers, but the death scenes are iconic. Even some of my jaded teenagers can't stomach the medic's death.

The opening scene is obviously perfect but I never thought of it as a peak….more of like an epic intro track to an overall perfect album haha

My favorite character was always Jackson, hated watching him go out

The cameos alone give you an idea of how badly people want to be in a Spielberg film. I remember reading that there was this giant scramble for pretty much every young actor in Hollywood to try and get attached to either Saving Private Ryan or The Thin Red Line.

Yeah looking back there really are some random cameos in there. Paul Giamatti and Ted Danson seemed out of no where for small parts haha. A few other names in there that weren't names at the time and/or character actors and/or old timers, like Bryan Cranston, Ryan Hurst, Dennis Farina, Leland Orser, Nathan Fillion, Corey Johnson.....just looking through their wikis and i'm like hey i know that guy, i know that guy, i knw that guy haha

Matt Damon was supposed to be a nobody but between filming and Good Will Hunting he became a star and that plan was ruined.
