Four of Arrows was such a huge album for me and I really didn’t know what to expect from this. I’m pretty blown away. Feels like a ton of work and love went into it.

Album is so good. Also, if anyone doesn’t already have this preordered, it’s part of that buy 2 get 1 free target sale. I was able to get a blue vinyl variant for 14 dollars.

This album is so good. It hits the perfect formula where it’s so much greater than the sum of its parts and it doesn’t rely on anything that is too affect driven. Al’s voice is distinctive and all the members do some interesting things but it doesn’t feel like they’re forcing or milking an affect the way some other big indie groups of the recent decades have done. The more weird potentially gimmicky stuff is usually across one song and then they move on to another idea on the next song. Great job, Grandpa.

In a world where trans people are consistently being stripped of all rights and the center stage for the most vile right wing assholes every day, I'm so happy to have a new Great Grandpa album in 2025 that is also very good.

Yeah, I think this is probably my favorite thing released today. Just masterful songwriting, love the production, everything about it is just great.

This band are the chosen ones. They cannot miss. I listened to this once and was going to comment on here after but I wanted to listen to it again because I didn’t remember what my favorite songs were. But after listening to it again, every single song was favorite. This is so good.

The jump up from Arrows to this album reminds me of the first time I heard the advance single for The National’s Fake Empire and I thought “OH. So they’re like actually doing this.” An already great band just doubling down on their own voice and floating even higher into rarified air. I told my normie co-workers to check this out as my last Teams chat message before I logged off for the week.

See, I quietly doubted this record because to me Four of Arrows felt like that kind of level up and I wasn’t sure how they’d follow it up, especially after such a long time, but I was proven very, very wrong.

“Task” is so good. I selfishly wish they had a few more upbeat jams a la that and “Junebug” but this record is an undeniable achievement.
