halfway through this album on my first listen rn and there's a very good chance it ends up being my favorite of the year
the singles are my favorites on my first listen, but I've listened to both of them 10+ times so that's not a knock on the rest of it. bloom and Rosalie are two other standouts for me. dark green water -> digger is a beautiful way to open the album and, imo, flows like it could be one song. it isn't quite as low key as the singles would've suggested, though, and there are three or so songs that capture the same kinda energy as plastic cough. the closer is extremely Frances Quinlan vocally, and I am sure some of you will be stoked on that. really need lyrics
they're bangers but they’re folky bangers There’s a certain corner of the internet where I’ll be writing about this album
I knew I could count on you. Jordan talk to me. What are yr standouts, how many times did you tear up, etc
I am a big huge fan of Dark Green Water, like it's a song of the year contender for me I think ("I won't ask anything but forgiveness/ once I have the courage to explain"). also love English Garden (this one reminds me of "Not Abel" if we're talking about Hop Along), Bloom (which is somehow like this righteous mash up of 00s pop punk and 90s country pop?), and Split Up The Kids (which made me go back to the stereogum feature to read the story about it). This one is the real deal people!
Dark green water really fucked me up too. I like English garden but I actually wish it didn’t come so early in the tracklist. Man, bloom is such a sick song. I think between us we’ve mentioned about half the album as our favs haha It’s honestly kinda wild to me that the band that wrote like 28 js later wrote this album lol. It’s like going straight from the albatross to nearer my god. Next fucking level
Listened to Mono No Aware and Digger today and wowwww, I liked their last album, but it’s undeniable that they’re on an entirely different level now.
